The Free and Authentic Christian Dreams and Visions Symbols Dictionary

About this book

This book was written because of the pure need for a “Free and authentic Christian dreams and visions symbols dictionary”. It was also written to make it available to all Christians, free of charge, right across the world. There was not a trustworthy and free dreams and visions symbols dictionary available at the time of the writing of this book.

Please take note that our FREE (online) Dreams Symbols Dictionary will be available in less than four weeks (End August 2017)

As an alternative, Christians make use of all sorts of dreams and visions dictionaries on the internet. These dictionaries are in fact seriously defiled with many false meanings ascribed to or allocated to different symbols. It is just not worth making use of these dictionaries. Most of them are non-Christian dictionaries like Muslim dictionaries or dictionaries of pagan religions. Some of them are psychological or demonic based dictionaries and just as dangerous to God’s people.

Quite a lot of them are plainly rooted in the occult and demon possessed mediums and fortune tellers seized the existence of dreams, visions and the interpretation of dreams and visions to defile this wonderful gift from God. These dictionaries were primarily created to deceive people. These dictionaries are in fact worthless, dangerous and cannot be utilized at all.

In order to ensure that this book is a useful aid to the reader, I need to discuss the purpose and the fundamentals of dreams and visions. Therefore I need to make a few very important statements regarding dreams and visions.

Please take note of the following facts about dreams and visions:

What is the purpose of dreams and visions?

Dreams and visions are, among other ways of communication, a very important method that God uses to communicate to people. He does not only communicate with Christians but also with unbelievers through dreams and visions. Although dreams and visions differ from each other it is fundamentally the same. The same principles and the same meanings are applicable to both dreams and visions. The only difference is that with the one the receiver of the message is asleep and with the other he or she is awake.

God speaks to people through dreams and visions. It is primarily a universal language of symbols created by God. Some dreams however, are not messages from God but in fact the result of a restoration process that God has built into every human being. God created this mechanism in order to help people to emotionally deal with circumstances and occurrences in their lives. God’s aim with these dreams are to restore us emotionally. This process keeps us normal and able to deal with life and its challenges.

Psychologists like to refer to a term called the “subconscious mind”. It is however a bit more than that. In reality it is basically a combination of your spirit making your soul (soul/brain) aware of certain issues in your life that need to be addressed or dealt with. On the other hand your conscience, which was formed by means of moral education, training and environmental influences, is also making your soul aware of certain areas of concern that need to be dealt with. The awareness mechanism functions by means of dreams. I call these dreams “emotional restoration dreams”.

To put it as simple as possible: Your soul struggles with certain problematic issues which it were exposed to. These bad experiences and challenges put a lot of pressure and stress on the soul. We need to deal with these issues. Some of these issues are identified by your conscience. While you are emotionally struggling with these issues, your spirit, who is always in perfect harmony with God, helps your soul to deal with these issues. It can do this because it knows how to deal with these issues. Your spirit is enlightened because of the continuous fellowship with the Holy Spirit and with God. Remember, the Holy Spirit is in your spirit and not in your soul. Your spirit knows things that your soul is totally unaware of. Your spirit brings clarity because it has a very powerful God-given ability to assist your soul. We read about that in the Bible.

Proverbs 20:27

The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Why is it searching all the dark areas and corners of the inner-man? Why is it a “lamp” in the innermost areas of the soul. What is it searching for? It looks for areas in our lives that is not in line with God, His word and His will. It brings these areas of concern under the attention of the soul. It then assists the soul to deal with these issues. It is all about submission and alignment. It brings harmony. The spirit is led by the Holy Spirit in this regard. The spirit also helps the soul to be led by the Holy Spirit. This process improves our lives. This mechanism is a gift from God. We do not need to understand this mechanism or this process. We are however aware of it by means of the dreams it produces.

It is very important to understand that although one dream is a message from God and the other a natural method to restore our emotional condition, both can and must be interpreted. Interpretation of all dreams and visions will either reveal a message from God or it will tell us with what we are struggling with in our personal lives.

Both interpretations need to be followed up by actions. God does not communicate unimportant information to us and emotional restoration dreams are “right on the money”. It accurately exposes emotional and problematic issues in your life. We actually need to act upon both dreams. Emotional restoration dreams are not just a way of restoring us emotionally but it is also, on purpose, telling us that we need to take action in terms of certain issues in our lives. We need to interpret these type of dreams so that we can identify problem areas in our faith walk with God. After we have identified these problems we need to submit these individual problems to the word of God and to the will of God. We should never ignore any dreams or visions. It is of the utmost importance that we deal with these messages according to God’s word and God’s will.

What exactly is the purpose of receiving messages from God? Why does God communicate to us? Dreams and visions are very exciting. It means this glorious wonderful creature called the living God, the ancient of days, the everlasting Father, the creator of heaven and earth and everything that exists, is really directly communicating with us personally.

Apart from the written word of God, He definitely still does communicate to us directly. The prophet Joel prophesied that in the last days God will pour out His Spirit on all flesh and that people will dream dreams and see visions. We are living in the last days. The last days actually started the day the Spirit of the living God was poured out on mankind. The Bible did not say in the early days or in the days of Elijah or in Biblical days. It says in the last days we will receive the Holy Spirit and we will see visions and dream dreams.

If we have the written word of God available to us, why does God still need to communicate to us. Isn’t everything already written in the word? Of course everything is already written in the word of God. But this does not mean that we understand everything correctly. It also does not mean that we apply the word correctly. It does not mean that the five-fold ministry is teaching the word correctly. It does not mean that God does not want to supernaturally reveal that word correctly to us. It does not mean that God does not want a personal love relationship with each and every believer. It does not mean that God does not want to comfort us when He sees us struggling with life’s challenges.

When the five-fold ministry are leading people astray God wants to intervene. He wants to protect His children against false teaching. That is when He starts communicating to you, His beloved son or daughter.

So what exactly does God communicate with us in dreams and visions?

  • He sometimes gives us clarity on certain doctrinal issues.

  • He sometimes warns people against other people or specific situations.

  • He sometimes warns people about certain strategies and tactics that the enemy is orchestrating against us.

  • He sometimes leads you to perform certain tasks or work of the ministry.

  • He sometimes exhorts you and comforts you in a dream or a vision when the going gets tough.

  • He sometimes gives direction in a dream or a vision.

  • He sometimes shows you that you need to address certain issues in your life.

  • He sometimes shows you how to address these issues.

  • He sometimes tells you that He loves you in a dream or a vision.

I cannot tell you how many of the above examples of dreams and visions I received over the past 35 years. I have written them all down. These books (dreams and visions recording books) that I have written contains all my dreams and visions that I received from God through the years. These dreams and visions are precious gifts from God. When I read through these books today (I often do), I can see the plans, purposes, will and aspirations God had for me and still has for my life. I can look back and see the warnings that saved me from many dangerous situations and people. I can see where He gave direction. I can see where He corrected wrong doctrines. I can see where He exhorted me and where He comforted me. I can see how each and every dream and vision worked together to form me. I can see how it caused me to grow spiritually. I can see how it caused me to mature in Christ.

Some of these dreams and visions were prophetic in nature. God showed me what was to happen in my life and in my personal ministry. These dreams and visions were and still are precious to me. It prepared me for the work of the ministry. It helped me to stay focused and it helped me to persevere. These dreams and visions all fit together like a puzzle. It completes you in Christ. Not only does dreams and visions bring individual clarity on individual situations or aspects but together it serves to bring clarity on many spiritual aspects as a combined unit. And yes, these dreams and visions all conforms to the written word of God one hundred percent. It is always in line with God’s word.

The most important advise that I give people regarding dreams and visions is to write them all down immediately when you wake up or immediately after you received the vision. Some people have a pen and their dreams recording book at their bedsides. The longer you wait to write them down the less you will remember. Your intellect and your soul immediately start breaking down the dream or vision in your mind. That is why you cannot wait writing them down. Every minute counts!

Please note that when you record dreams and visions that it is all about the different symbols in the dream or the vision. The shape of each object, the colour of each object, the quantity of the different objects, the direction facing and/or the direction of movement of each object, the words spoken, the actions performed, the emotions experienced with each occurrence in the dream or vision, the place the dream was physically located, the geographical area, background circumstances, the context of time, history and certain information that you supernaturally knew in the dream and vision need to be written down exactly as God gave it to you. The more accurate you record all these information the more successful you will be with the interpretation of the dream or vision. Remember that each and every symbol and each and every detail in the dream and vision need to be analysed. We need to do this systematically in order to bring the total sum of all possible aspects and meanings into the equation. If we do not analyse all symbols and all meanings we might loose vital information and we might end up not interpreting the dream or vision correctly.

From where does dreams originate from?

Dreams and visions come from God. He is the Dream Giver and that includes both types of dreams. We need to go to God and the Holy Spirit for more clarity on dreams and visions. We need to go to God for the interpretation of specific symbols that we identified in dreams and visions. God created mankind. He created us according to His image. We were born of His Spirit. We are like Him. He knows us inside out.

Now it is very important to understand the following, “Nobody has the right to regard dreams and visions or the interpretation of dreams and visions as something that they mastered or something they own”. Not only does dreams and visions come from God but also the meanings of the symbols comes from Him. We can even take it further by saying that we cannot really interpret dreams and visions without the help of the Holy Spirit. God needs to help us “find” the meanings of dreams and visions by revealing it to us through prayer and through divine revelation. For that reason a mere dreams and visions dictionary alone will be of little use to us. It will put our attention on some meanings and we might have an indication of what God wants to communicate to us but that’s all. The real meaning of the dream or the vision will be lost if we do not seek God in prayer for the interpretation of the specific dream or vision.

God also provides the meanings of different symbols. Most symbols and the meanings of these symbols are find in Scripture. It is totally understandable that if dreams and visions come from God, that the meanings of the symbols in these dreams and visions will be found in His word. The language of symbols belongs to God. He created it. Almost all symbols and meanings of these symbols come from the Bible.

Some symbols are in fact modern equivalents of Biblical symbols. For this reason a “sword” and an “arrow”, which come from the Bible, have the same meaning as a “pistol” or a “rifle” which are modern equivalents of these Biblical symbols. The same with a “horse” and a “motor vehicle”. In some cases God gave the meanings of the different symbols and in other cases God used the natural characteristics of the object to be representative in terms of the meaning of the specific object. Some objects may have both a God given meaning and also a meaning based on the natural characteristics of the specific object. Some symbols cannot be find in the Bible and we need to seek God for the meanings of these symbols. This makes the interpretation of dreams and visions more complex. For this reason we cannot just use a dictionary but we absolutely need to seek God in prayer in order to determine exactly what God wants to tell us.

The symbols

Because God created everything that exists, everything belongs to Him. The rainbow is His, the sea is His and the lion is His. Anybody may try to defile God’s property and he may give other meanings to objects but that changes nothing. Even when the enemy try to defile God’s property by giving demonic meanings to certain objects, that objects and the meanings of these objects still belong to God. It means that God created it and He gave meaning to everything first. It means that the meanings that God gave certain objects in dreams and visions are the true meanings and all other meanings are false. This is exactly why dreams and visions dictionaries created by pagan religionists or even psychologist are so full of errors and false meanings. Not only people but also the enemy started to give meanings to objects. It is however important to understand that we need to ignore these meanings.

Pagan religions like Islam, fortune-tellers, psychics and even psychologists all have no business with dreams, visions or the interpretation thereof. This have nothing to do with them! It has everything to do with God, the Church and you, the individual.

We should not be scared to demonic types of symbols and demonic meanings. It is actually false meanings and they use these symbols illegally. For example, God gave a certain meaning to the symbol of a rainbow. Satan also started to use the rainbow as a symbol and he gave this symbol another meaning. We should ignore this and embrace God’s symbols and the meanings God gave to these symbols. A rainbow is pure and beautiful and it belongs to God.

How common are dreams and visions?

God spoke to many people in the Bible through dreams and visions. We think of people like Abraham, Jacob, Pharaoh, Moses, Gideon, Nathan, Eli, Samuel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joseph, Amos, Zechariah, The wise-men who came to witness Jesus’ birth, Joseph and Maria, Pilate’s wife, Paul, Ananias, Cornelius, Peter, John and many more.

In these dreams and visions God used symbols and certain meanings of these symbols to communicate with these people. The angels often asked those people the following words: “What do you see?” When these people identified these symbols the angels often gave them the specific meanings of these symbols. Please look at the following Old-Testament and New-Testament verses for more insight in the way God communicates with us:

Genesis 15:1

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”

God really speaks through symbols to people. Man was created that way. We do not grasp the abstract so well. We want to see pictures. That is the reason why Jesus spoke and taught by means of parables. Have you ever heard someone asking, “Don’t you understand? Must I draw you a picture?” God will never stop speaking to us this way. At least not until “when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away”.

A very important Scripture to confirm that God speaks to us through dreams and visions is Joel and Acts 2:14-18:

Joel 2:28-29

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Acts 2:14-18

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

We are in fact living in the last days. That is why we dream and that is why we see visions.

Pagan dreams and visions dictionaries

When a non-Christian dreams he or she is in fact receiving a message from God just like a Christian. And, just like us, they also have “emotional restoration dreams”. Such a person however, needs the Holy Spirit and the word (Bible) of the living God in order to assist him to interpret the dream or vision. It is quite difficult for an unbeliever to find the meaning or the interpretation of a dream or a vision. They do not have the Holy Spirit to assist them. It is therefore practically impossible for them to interpret dreams and visions. A Biblical example of such a person was Nebuchadnezzar. He diligently searched for a person who could assist him interpreting the dream that he had. His own pagan interpreters could not interpret the dream for him. Fortunately he found a man of God. He found Daniel and he succeeded finding the true meaning of his dream.

When a person ponders on certain issues God will reveal these issues to them irrespective if such a person is a Christian or not. That is what happened to Nebuchadnezzar and it also happened to Pharaoh. It is still happening today. That is why we must always take note of what we were pondering on the day before the dream or the vision. Many times this assisted me a lot to correctly interpret the dream or vision that I received from God.

Why does God reveal certain things to unbelievers? I do not know. What I do know is that nobody will have any excuse one day when it comes to spiritual things. Just as nature reveals to us that there is a God in order for us to search for this God, so even dreams and visions reveal to us that there is a God. Even if non-believers pursue the meanings of dreams and visions they will find it, just as Christians. Our God is a God of grace and mercy. He answers to nobody and He does what He want. We cannot question Him!

Can Satan give us dreams and visions?

Dreams and visions and the interpretation of dreams and visions belong to God. No, the devil and his demons cannot give us dreams or visions. I will explain why not. People who teach that Satan can mislead us through dreams and visions often misunderstand the following Scripture:

2 Corinthians 11:14

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

People who believe that Satan can give us dreams and visions do not know how to explain certain phenomena in this regard. This inability causes them to believe that dreams and visions can be created by evil forces. They also do not know how to deal with reports from people who claim that they have experienced dreams or visions from Satan. When these people give details of the dreams or the visions they had, it indeed appears that it did indeed originate from Satan or demons.

The truth is however that Satan cannot give us dreams directly. He hasn’t got that power or ability. He however can cause us to dream as a natural result of temptation, lies and fear that he causes in our lives.

People who lives in faith, righteousness and obedience never experience dreams that was indirectly caused by evil forces (fear). Because they do not fear anything they never have nightmares or negative dreams caused by emotional imbalances in their souls.

Some people however are tempted into sin and to doubt in the love and the word of God. People who doubt in God’s word and his love often lives in fear. The more fear and the more sin in our lives, which causes feelings of guilt and regret, the higher are the possibility that we will experience emotional turmoil in our lives. The more oppressed we are by Satan, the more feelings of fear and the more feelings of guilt will build up in our souls.

This will be dealt with by the natural emotional restoration process that God gave us, “emotional restoration dreams”. We need this kind of dreams in order for our emotional condition to be normalized or to be reset. This is the natural and automatic God-given mechanism that we all have in order to assist us coping with the emotional stress that we are almost constantly exposed to.

It is this mechanism that sometimes causes nightmares. We will experience nightmares and we will experience fear in these dreams. Even when we wake up after such a dream we will still experience fear. Some people think that such dreams come from Satan. This is in fact not true. These types of dreams originated in our souls because of fear and guilt.

After a robbery incident a person I know frequently had dreams of robbers breaking into his house. He frequently had dreams of criminals attacking and hurting him. It was only after he learned to trust and rest in God’s love and in His ability and will to protect him, that this person managed to get rid of fear and also the nightmares.

Now it is a well known fact that people who get involved in the occult and in Satanism do experience things that normal people (Christians and even normal unsaved people) do not experience. These people have opened a lot of doors to the devil and to demonic activities in their lives. They are seriously exposed to things that we as Christians and even normal unsaved people are not exposed to.

The bottom line is, nowhere in the Bible does it say that Satan can give people dreams and visions. Nowhere in the Bible do we see even just one reference or one incident of a person who experienced a dream or a vision given by Satan. When we look at the Scripture mentioned above we see one fact clearly stated by Paul: Satan can transform himself into an angel of light. What it means is that he can make himself appear like an angel of light. He might even be able to appear like Jesus Christ. This verse has in fact nothing to do with dreams and nothing to do with visions.

I am convinced that Satan can appear to people pretending to be an angel of light. Can he appear to a Spirit filled Christian? Apparently he did in the life of Smith Wigglesworth when Smith said to him, “Oh! It’s only you“, and went back to sleep. There is a possibility however that he did not really appear to Smith Wigglesworth and his wife that night. It could have been God who exposed the presence of the devil in the room to Smith for some reason, even if it was only to test or to build his faith.

Through the years God has opened the spiritual eyes of many ministers by exposing the works of the devil to them. A person I know of once ministered unto a lady who was seriously depressed. When prayer and counseling did not help this sister, this person’s eyes were suddenly opened and he saw a goat standing a few feet away. The moment he saw the goat, who was actually a demon, the demon realized that he was exposed and he fled the room immediately when this person took control of the situation. This sister was immediately delivered from the spirit of depression.

Another lady who was totally trapped in seriously bad occultic activities once had a dream of a very ugly and devilish monster hiding in the dark in her garden. In the dream she was terrified. At one stage she was peeping through her bedroom window when she saw this evil creature chewing a screaming woman in its huge mouth. She could hear the woman’s bones crack while being chewed to death. She heard the last faint little scream from this woman just before this creature finally swallowed her. At exactly this point she supernaturally knew that she was that woman. She was terrified during and after the dream.

Now many people would say that this dream came from Satan. It however turned out that this dream was from God. It was his final warning to this woman that if she did not repent immediately from the evil and devilish activities she was involved in, the demon in the dream was going to cause her to be lost and condemned forever. It was the last warning and fortunately this woman did repent soon after this dream.

Now it is possible that Spirit filled people of God who saw Satan appear to them might actually have seen Satan being exposed to them by God. I however do admit that it is possible for Satan and demons to appear to Christians. I will not deny that.

Does Satan appear to unbelievers? I do not thinks so. Normally he does not want unbelievers to know that he exists but I assume that it is possible. Does he appear to Satanists and people who are busy with all sorts of witchcraft and occultism? Yes I do think so. As I said, people in this category are exposed to a lot of things because of the sin and the devilish activities that they embarked upon.

The mere fact that Satan can appear to people however does not mean that he can give people dreams and visions. Dreams and visions is a divine ability. Only God can “manufacture” a dream or a vision in such a way that our physical brain and our physical senses can observe or experience it. The following quotations will give us a little more insight into what goes on in our brains when we dream:

The limbic system

The limbic system is a relatively primitive part of the brain where memories and emotions are processed. It is made up of the amygdala, hippocampus and cingulate gyrus:

  • The amygdala – acts as a link between a stimulus and how you react to that stimulus. It takes information from your senses and reacts in the appropriate way, i.e. if something smells bad, we feel disgust.
  • The hippocampus – the memory teacher. The hippocampus is responsible for memory consolidation. For example, the first time we touch something hot, it learns the experience and replays it repeatedly to another part of the brain called the cerebral cortex. This creates a long-term memory.
  • The cingulate gyrus – this structure is partly responsible for your physical reactions to situations. It controls skeletal muscle movement and also recognizing which part of the body has been stimulated through touch.

During REM sleep, this part of the brain is highly active. When we see what this part of the brain does, it is easy to relate it to dream production. In our dreams, we often see familiar things in strange settings or jumbled imagery…

Active brain

So, while you may think your brain ‘switches off’ when you go asleep, it is actually highly active for part of the night. It is almost as active during REM sleep as when you are awake! During this time, it is thought that your brain also works hard to clean itself up…

Scientists have identified a specific pattern of activity at the back of the brain which could then predict whether a person was having a dream. Their findings confirm that dreaming can occur both during rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep and non-REM (NREM) sleep.

Researchers have traditionally associated dreaming with the high-frequency brain activity they observed during REM sleep, and which appeared similar to the kind of brain activity seen when people were awake. In contrast, low-frequency brain activity during NREM sleep was interpreted as an absence of dreams.

Only God can manipulate the very complex processes in our brains in order to achieve this. In plain terms, God bypasses the normal processes deep inside our brains. He interferes those processes by divinely inserts a God created “video” and He hits the “play” button. At that moment we “see” and “hear” a message from heaven. The same with a vision.

It is quite easy for Satan to appear to a person. He merely has to walk over from the spiritual realm into the natural realm. Although I said that it is quite easy I do need to mention that Satan is tremendously restricted in what he can do when it comes to the natural realm. God has spiritual laws in place and evil forces just cannot bypass those laws. They always need legal grounds to act. For this reason it is not just a matter of randomly appearing to a person. The bottom-line is however that Satan can appear to people. Inserting a dream into a human brain or creating a vision is something else. That requires Godly abilities. Only God is the Dream-giver and the Vision-giver.

Through the years people noticed “astonishing” things and acts performed by evil spirits when in fact those acts are actually quite commonplace. What is so profound or so amazing when magicians cause people or objects floating in the air when in fact demons are holding up those people or objects in the air? What is so profound or amazing when magicians achieve this through soul power? There is nothing miraculous about these things! What is so profound or so amazing to see that demons can “read” minds when in fact everything we think in the natural realm is in fact audibly heard by all spiritual creatures in the spiritual realm? Even in the spiritual realm every spiritual creature knows what other spiritual creatures think. There is nothing miraculous about that! It is commonplace and simple!

Causing a person to dream or creating a vision is quite a different story. Only God can do that. People who claim that they experienced a vision from Jesus Christ or a vision of an angel appearing to them, when details in that vision contradicts Scripture, have actually been misled. Firstly that was not a vision. Secondly it was not Jesus Christ or angels. It was Satan appearing to them as an angel.

It is common knowledge that Jesus Christ and his angels have appeared to people many times through the ages. They still do appear to people even today and they probably will until the end of the age. The devil and his demons can do the same but as I said, this has nothing to do with dreams and visions.

We never have to fear that we might be misled by Satan in a dream or a vision pretending that the dream or the vision is from God. This will never happen.

What we however do need to do is the following: Whenever Jesus Christ or an angel appear to you, always check if what they tell you conforms with the Scripture, always ask them to give you a Scripture reference to confirm that the statements they make are true and legitimate. If we follow this rule we cannot be deceived.

We in fact never have to fear that we will be deceived when we have dreams or visions or when angels appear to us as long as we check all information with the Scripture.

Dream dictionaries created by Psychologists

Dream dictionaries created by psychologist are just as unreliable as those created by pagan religionists and fortune tellers. When it comes to the natural characteristics of objects like plants and animals these dictionaries may be partially correct. The fact that God did not stick to natural traits and characteristics however, causes these dictionaries to be full of error. These people and even psychologists were not appointed by the Dream Giver to interpret dreams and visions. That honour belongs to the Holy Spirit. Yes, the five-fold ministry and other Christians, like Daniel, may be instrumental in teaching and assisting people to interpret dreams and visions correctly but still the Holy Spirit plays a major part in the interpretation of dreams and visions. This aspect of man belongs to the church of God. It is part of the work of the ministry. Psychologists have no right to enter this aspect of humanity. This is what Dr. Henry W. Wright has to say about this:

I think, and I say this very carefully, God is ticked off at the psychologists being the pastors of America (or any country). If there are any psychologists reading this, I love you man, I love you woman. But I do think you have taken some things away from the pastors that are rightfully theirs to deal with. Under Old-Testament law, if anyone had leprosy, in order to be considered cured, to whom did they go show themselves? The priest. In the New-Testament, it goes a little further. James say:

Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sin, they shall be forgiven him. James 4:14-15

– Dr. Henry W. Wright

What Dr. Wright really means is that healing belongs to the church and that includes mental healing. God gave specific instructions on how a person needs to be healed and where such a person should go to in order to receive healing. A psychologist is simply not able to heal emotionally sick or mentally sick people. The methods that they use, from prescription drugs and counselling to the interpretation of dreams are just not effective. In fact, it is actually dangerous! Not only does prescription drugs cause sickness and diseases, it actually kills people. Even the counselling and dreams interpretation that they carry out are far from trustworthy and effective.

Even Christian medical doctors believe that true healing is a ministry of the church. This is what Dr. MK Strydom has to say about this:

According to the Word, God is not interested in disease management, He is interested in disease eradication and disease prevention. Where health-care is concerned today, there is really no such thing – they should be calling it disease management. Disease management means for example prescribing drugs for a diabetic or a person with high blood pressure for the rest of his or her life. The person is artificially maintained and manipulated by these drugs but the underlying problem that initially caused the disease is not dealt with. I am not saying that it is wrong to take medical drugs, it is sometimes very necessary. For example if I have a patient come in with a blood pressure of 200/110, I have got to give the person medication to get that blood pressure down before he has a stroke and dies. It is an emergency, there is no time to sit down and deal with the issues in his life that lead to perpetual thoughts of fear, anxiety, stress and worry about the future (which is the cause of high blood pressure).

Similarly if I have a patient that I diagnose with hyperthyroidism, I’ve got to put him on medication as this condition is potentially life threatening. But is that the ultimate solution? It is in science. However, that is not scriptural. We think that disease management is a cure – no, if you were cured you wouldn’t need disease management. Disease management is another form of bondage. Disease management means you’re not free – you are not healed of your disease. But the Bible says that he who the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8 v 36).

I personally will only prescribe medication in the short term to save a person’s life or to get the person into a place of safety so that he or she has time to go and deal with the root of the problem that is causing the disease. Prescribing drugs as a single act is fine but the problem comes in when a person stays on those drugs permanently without the underlying problem behind the disease being dealt with. To those of you who are on chronic medication, I would like to inform you that God does not want you artificially maintained and chemically manipulated by medical drugs for the rest of your life. He wants to heal you and set you free of that disease permanently. But you also have a responsibility before God to get sin out of your life and to line yourself up with His Word and His conditions for healing.

– Dr. MK Strydom

Again, this is what the Bible commands us to do when we are sick:

James 5:12-15

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Even for mental healing we need to follow God’s instructions. Psychologists just do not possess the knowledge or the divine understanding of the fundamentals and principles that dreams, visions and the interpretations of dreams and visions entail. They need the Holy Spirit and they need to know the true Biblical language of symbols. Then they need to be called by God. That makes them a minister of God. That makes them part of the five-fold ministry. That makes them Christian believers and therefore part of the church of God.

Dreams and visions are dealing with the spiritual aspect of the human being. It is not only a psychological aspect. In order to heal a human being, God, or a minister of God need to address problems within the complex make-up of a human being, spiritually. Psychologist deal with man on a psychological level which is completely situated in the soul dimension of man. This is trying to deal with the soul of man by bypassing the spiritual. It simply does not work that way. By applying intellectual knowledge to a spiritual problem is like gluing the broken pieces of a vase together with mud. The absence of the Holy Spirit is absolutely devastating in terms of dealing with the emotional, psychological and physical issues and problems of all human beings.

It really is very important to emphasize this once again, “Dreams, visions and the interpretation of dreams and visions belong to God and the church”. It is a spiritual thing. Anybody receiving a dream or a vision needs to go to God or to the church (a Christian who is trained in interpreting dreams and visions) to find the correct interpretation of their dreams and visions. Even natural dreams is in fact spiritual. This have nothing to do with pagan religionists, fortune tellers and even psychologists.

Under normal circumstances a natural dream in itself is sufficient enough to restore one’s emotional condition

In order to face the challenges that life brings our way the emotional restoration dream is sufficient enough. In more serious cases we need to interpret reoccurring dreams in order to identify certain problem areas. We do not need psychologists or anyone else in terms of the interpretation of a dream or a vision or to deal with problematic issues. We need to learn the Biblical language of dreams and visions exactly how we learn any other language. When we have learned this Biblical language, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we also know how to interpret dreams and visions.

As soon as we identified problem areas in our faith walk we need to submit these problems or issues to God. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to assist us dealing with these problems. In very serious cases we need to follow the instructions given us in James 5:12-15. That is when we need a minister of God to pray for us and with us. In more serious cases, we may need a minister of God to counsel us. It is however important that you go to the right minister. Only a Holy Spirit led, Spirit filled man or woman of God can counsel you correctly and successfully. Other counsellors will counsel you intellectually. This method of counselling is not effective enough. They basically counsel you based on their experience or what they have learned in a college or an university. Although there is some value pertaining to this type of counselling, it is however very limited. True and effective counselling is done by a Spirit filled worker of God. If he or she also know how to interpret dreams and visions, this type of counselling will be very effective. This kind of counselling leads to deliverance and to restoration.

Learning the language of symbols

The Biblical language of symbols is just as easy to learn as any other language. In fact I think it is easier to master than most languages. God gave enough information in the Bible in order for us to understand the basic principles of this language. The Bible also gave us the meanings of the basic or most common symbols as a foundation. From here, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will slowly but surely master this language. A good and authentic Christian dictionary will prove to be of great help in achieving this.

In order to make this dictionary available, not only the Bible itself but also the work of authentic dreams, visions, symbols and types dictionary authors were utilized as references. The work of Kevin J. Conner, Peter McArthur, Genevieve Brown as well as Hennie van Niekerk were of great value during the compilation of this dictionary. I hope you will find it to be of great value in mastering the language of God. Whether you wish to use it to learn the Godly language of symbols or whether you just need it for reference purposes. I hope the simplicity of the dictionary will make this as easy as possible for you.

Please take note that you only need to click on the different letters of the alphabet in order to be taken to the words beginning with the same letter. Also please note that at the end of the dictionary you will find more information on colours, numbers, shapes, directions and the positions of symbols in dreams and visions.

Lastly please take note that the dreams and visions dictionary will be updated from time to time as new symbols and the meanings of new symbols are identified. For this reason the book’s edition number will be important to take note of. The latest edition will always be available on the “Resources” page of both my websites:

For instance, take the dreams of Pharaoh’s butler and baker. These men were both troubled because nobody could interpret the dreams they had the night before for them. Joseph however gave both these persons the full interpretation of their dreams after he told them that the interpretation of dreams are a work of God (Genesis 40:8). He specifically told them that the interpretation of dreams belongs to God.

Take note that Joseph not only revealed the meanings of the different symbols. He also gave more information, which was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit. Let us look at the different symbols and the interpretation of both these dreams:

Chief Butler’s dream:

  1. In the dream a vine was before me.

  2. In the vine there were three branches.

  3. It was as though it budded.

  4. And her blossoms shot forth.

  5. The clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes.

  6. Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand.

  7. I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup.

  8. I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

Interpretation: This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

Observation: It was clear by the events in the dream that the Chief Butler was serving the Pharaoh like he used to. It was clear that the Pharaoh received the cup from him. The Holy Spirit however revealed to Joseph that this dream was not but a natural dream dealing with the butler’s emotional state. It was also not just the “fulfillment” of the butler’s longing or desire for reinstatement. This dream was in fact of a prophetic nature. God revealed to Joseph that the butler will be reinstated by Pharaoh. Also take note that the three branches symbolized three “days”. In Pharaoh’s dream the seven cows coming up from the Nile symbolized seven “years”. Joseph could have interpreted the three branches as three years but he did not. The Holy Spirit revealed to him to interpret it as days. Normally branches symbolizes something other than days (victory, rejoicing, churches, God’s people), but Joseph knew through the Holy Spirit to interpret it as days. The grapes and the cup were literal. It did not symbolize anything else. Usually grapes speaks of the goodness of God. This shows that sometimes certain objects have to be taken literal and other times symbolical.

Chief Baker’s dream:

  1. I had three white baskets on my head.

  2. In the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh.

  3. The birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

Interpretation: The three baskets are three days: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

Observation: It was clear by the events in the dream that the Chief Baker was experiencing negative circumstances and events in his dream. There is however nothing symbolizing the hanging on a tree or the actions of Pharaoh in the dream. The Holy Spirit however revealed to Joseph that Pharaoh will instruct his servants to execute the baker by hanging him on a tree. Also take note, baskets usually symbolizes something else like life’s “provisions” and not “days”. Also take note that the birds in the dream was literal and therefore not symbolic. Sometimes birds symbolizes the actions of evil spirits. In the dream Pharaoh was also not a symbol. Pharaoh in the dream represented Pharaoh himself.

A friend of mine once had the following dream:

  1. In the dream he was swimming in a Southerly direction among the waves of the sea (not towards the beach but parallel to it).

  2. The next moment he saw a gigantic wave approaching him from his left.

  3. Before he could do anything the wave broke right on top of him.

  4. He was crushed underneath tons of water and taken deep down to the bottom of the water.

  5. It appeared that he was taken so deep for so long that, in the dream, he was concerned that he won’t have enough oxygen to reach the surface again.

  6. He slowly ascended again and after quite a while, and much to his surprise, he finally made it to the surface again. The oxygen in his lungs and his blood did indeed last until he reached the surface again.

Meaning of the relevant symbols:

  1. Southerly direction: Person attempting to reach a place or state of quietness and refreshment.

  2. Among waves: Person is in a time or period in his life of changes or new moves of God.

  3. Huge wave: A big change or move of God.

  4. Crushed beneath tons of water: This new change or move of God will have a big affect on this person. It will be difficult for the person and it will be a challenging experience for him.

  5. Taken deep down into the water: It will spiritually be a deep and important experience for this person. It also speaks of a “long” period of time which can literally mean months or years.

  6. Concerned not enough oxygen: The person will struggle and he will be concerned about the affects of this new change. He will be worried about the consequences if this big change or new move of God. This person will indeed doubt whether he will make it through the fast approaching ordeal or not.

  7. Against his concerns he reached the surface again: In the dream this person eventually makes it.

Interpretation: This dream is an exhortation from God. Although the person seeks a bit of quietness and refreshment, God wants him to understand that He really needs to test his faith and his character. There is a big move on its way (God’s plan for his life) that will be quite an unpleasant experience for this person. It will take longer than usual, it will be tougher than usual and a lot more challenging than usual. This move of God will test the faith and the perseverance of this person to the limits. With this dream God is preparing the person for what is about to happen. He is also exhorting this person. God is actually saying: Hang in there! This is going to be tough but it is necessary for the development of your spiritual life. Do not be afraid. You will make it. I am with you in this!

As you can see, again the interpretation revealed a lot more than just the sum of the symbols in the dream. This is why we need God to reveal the whole interpretation to us. There is always a reason why we dream. That is why we need to pray about our dreams and visions. We always need to seek God’s face for revelations and interpretations. The symbols plays a huge part but it is not all of it. A dream dictionary is very important. It is also important that we learn the Biblical or heavenly language called “parables”, “types” and “symbols”. We need to know the meanings of the different symbols by heart. We also need to expand our personal dictionaries.

But, make no mistake, we also need the Holy Spirit to reveal the true meaning or interpretations of our dreams and visions to us.

The Biblical meanings and Scripture references

The meanings or the interpretation of most symbols in this dictionary are derived from The Bible. When the Second Edition of this dictionary is released, the relevant Bible verses will be included. This will make the dictionary a lot more clear and easier to understand.

(A few examples – Take note that these symbols and meanings are not yet complete and will be completely updated at the end of August 2017)

Accident (Vehicle)

Dissension and disunity. When you and a very close person, usually your spouse or a business partner, disagree on something you may dream of a vehicle accident (especially after an argument or before an argument). The damage on the vehicle and the way the vehicle got damaged reveal more information on the specific circumstances. Also notice colours and other circumstances in the dream or the vision. Colours will probably reveal the reason why there is disunity. Who was the driver? How was the vehicle damaged? How serious was the damage and exactly which body-parts of the vehicle got damaged? Did somebody get injured or did someone die in the accident? All these aspects tell you more about the meaning of this dream. If you were involved in an accident involving your vehicle and another vehicle, there is disunity between two people with different ministries but who work together. If the accident involved your own vehicle only, the disunity is probably between you and your spouse or you and somebody within your ministry. If somebody purposely cause an accident it means that somebody wants to damage your ministry or your business on purpose. See “vehicles” for more information.

See “snakes” (adder)

A person committing adultery in a dream symbolizes a church or a congregation not being faithful to Christ. Be careful not to walk after alternative ways of obtaining righteousness or spiritual blessings. Watch-out for such a person or such a temptation. He or she may influence people not to walk in harmony or in unity with Christ but to seek fleshly ways or alternative ways to please God.

When you dream of aeroplanes you are dealing with the spiritual aspects of ministry. This is ministry on a higher level than the normal. You have been made able to lift off from the earth (worldly ways and systems) and are now operating and functioning on a higher Godly level, just as an aeroplane reach higher areas than a motor vehicle. It is all about your God given ability, through the work of the Holy Spirit, to function on a higher level. When you dream of aeroplanes God reveals something to you in terms of the spiritual aspects of your ministry. It is not about the physical or natural aspects of your ministry. This is the impact that you have or should have on the spiritual realm. It is all about dealing with the spiritual.

Aircraft coming in for a landing

The time for the fulfilment of a prophecy has come. God reveals to us that the word that He has promised, maybe long ago, is about to be fulfilled.

Aircraft crashing

Because of negligence or carelessness, a prophetic word does not come into fulfilment. Please remember that we always have our part to play when it comes to God’s word and that includes prophetic word. We need to be obedient and we need to be faithful. We should always act positively in accordance of God’s word and God’s will in all circumstances and situations. We can and will prevent prophecies from coming into fulfilment if we do not get in line with that word.

Aircraft for passengers

An aircraft for passengers indicates a large group of people who are involved in a spiritual form of ministry like intersession. In the spiritual realm we are part of a global ministry. We do not know who the other people are but we form part of this group of people who are involved with a specific spiritual ministry. When you dream of an aircraft for passengers it is important to note all other symbols in the dream in order to understand the interpretation of the dream.

Aircraft (Small)

A small aircraft represents a personal spiritual ministry. This symbol is all about your own personal spiritual ministry in the kingdom of God. This is what you do , your God given ability to influence the spiritual realm according to God’s will and His word. When you experience problems while flying you need to take note of exactly what causes the problems. These symbols will reveal what areas in your ministry need to be addressed in order to develop your spiritual ministry.

Fighter planes represents God’s army or God’s children operating in authority. Please do not be mistaken on the practical aspects of this symbol. This does not mean that you are involved in a spiritual warfare against evil. It means that you are ready and able, like a soldier, to prevent the enemy from tempting you into sin or unbelief. Warfare in this sense is a metaphor. We should always be ready and protected like soldiers. We utilize these fighter planes to protect our borders and our border-posts. We do not give the enemy any foothold in our lives. The enemy is not to come past our borders. Other symbols in the dream or vision will reveal the specific meaning of the dream or vision.

An airport symbolizes spiritual conference. This is the place where spiritual ministries take off and land. The last acts of preparation are carried out at the airport. Some incidents in dreams and visions on an airport can reveal some last minute preparation.

The fulfilment of a spiritual ministry. A person arriving at an airport is in fact at the beginning of a spiritual ministry. Obviously it can also indicate the end of a spiritual ministry.

Alabaster box

An alabaster box symbolizes a person whose life is a pleasant fragrance to God. Such a person serves God in truth and in spirit and lives a life of praise and worship.

Alcohol represents the Holy Spirit. We as Christians should not get drunk with wine but from the Holy Spirit.

Altar (Cross of Jesus)

An altar symbolizes the sacrificing of oneself or fleshly desires by taking up the cross everyday. The colour of the alter and other symbols on the altar or relating to the altar will reveal more information regarding to the type of personal sacrifice. We should progressively die in our selves so that Christ can live in and through us.

An anchor is a symbol for safety or security and hope. The colour and size of the anchor will reveal more information on the meaning of the particular dream.

An angel in dreams and visions can be a literal angel appearing to you in a vision or in a dream.

Angel (with goat feet)

Beware of a person who appears to be a messenger of God but in fact leading people astray.

Angel (statue)

When someone dreams of a statue of an angel, he or she believes that angels are powerful but do not believe that angels are active in their ministry. They believe that angels cannot affect them or their ministry or visa-versa.

Anoint (Act)

When someone is anointed in a dream it symbolizes that such a person is set apart by God for service in His kingdom or in the church. Anointing is never about a position but a it is all about a service. All ministers serve in the body of Christ. They are not served by others. We, the five-fold ministry as well as other church members all serve God and we all serve others. We are not anointed to be served.

When we dream about ants and the activities of ants, we dream about preparation (wisdom and provision) for the future.

Diligence or industry or wisdom for provision (Our provision is to gather precious treasures in heaven)

Ant (black)

A black ant symbolizes an effort to provide for oneself or for one’s family motivated by unbelief. Such a person do not believe that God can provide. He will rather diligently work as hard as he can to provide for himself.

A black ant can also symbolize an effort to provide by means of secret or illegal activity.

Ant (golden)

A golden ant symbolizes preparation for the future based on faith in God. Such a person is not only gathering wonderful treasures in heaven or in the kingdom of God, he is also ensuring provision now on earth trough faith and not through toil.

Ant hill (negative)

An ant hill symbolizes accumulation for the future based on greed or fear. Such a person is like the rich man who built himself bigger storage rooms to enable him to keep more than enough provision for himself and for his family. This task is his first priority and it is all that he thinks about. It drives him to gather more and more provisions for the future.

See “clothing”

Apple tree

An apple tree symbolizes a person you love. More detail about the tree and the apples will reveal more information about the meaning of the dream or vision.

Apples symbolizes love relationships and refreshment from God.

Ark (Like Noah’s)

An ark symbolizes Jesus Christ who is our safety and salvation. He is our ark that saves us from this world. When the world comes against us we do not have to fear because we are kept save in Him.

Ark (Covenant)

The ark of the covenant symbolizes the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst. Christ in us is the ultimate presence of God in our lives.

Arm (Of God)

An arm symbolizes God’s power or God’s help or mightiness or strength in our lives. He is mighty to deliver us in all situations.

Arm (Of man)

(Pos) An army symbolizes good or evil spiritual powers and strength. A strong Christian army is Christians who are not easily deceived into all kinds of temptations. They abstain from sin when tempted. They also do not doubt in God’s word. This makes them a good army of God who keeps the enemy outside our border posts and outside our borders. They do not give the enemy any foothold in their lives. Please take note that they are not good fighters. They are rather good in their efforts to walk obediently in the ways of God. They are not involved in spiritual warfare but rather always ready to see through the strategies of the enemy and preventing evil powers from getting them involved in worldly things like sin or unbelief.

(Neg) A weak Christian Christian army are Christians who fall for the lies and temptations of the enemy by getting involved in sin and unbelief. They allowed the enemy to enter their lives. They gave the enemy a foothold by not keeping them outside the borders of their lives.

Military armour are equipment for protecting the army. It therefore symbolizes divine equipment for resisting evil. The armour of God keeps the enemy outside the border-posts and borders of our lives. We resist evil and keep evil from entering our lives. We do not give the enemy any foothold in our lives. This means we do not fall for the enemy’s lies and temptations. Almost all our spiritual armour are about “faith” and “believe”. It is all about the word of God and it is all about living a holy life. Only the sword is offensive. We utilize the sword of the Spirit to speak things into existence. All the other pieces of armour of a soldier are there for protection and therefore defensive of nature.

Arrows are all about words. The enemy attacks us with words of judgment and critical words of condemnation.

People can also attack us with bitter words of criticism, anger and hate.

Arrows (With blue or purple or white arrowheads)

A person who shoots people in their hearts with words of love or peace or faith or the truth (The word of God: Love and deliverance and redemption). Such a person hits people in their hearts with the wonderful word of God. These words bring life and deliverance.

Arrows (With red or Orange or black arrowheads)

A person shooting people in their hearts with words of hate or anger or resentment.

The sanctification and the cleansing of oneself from all manipulative influences enabling us to make good and sober decisions.

(Pos) A person who has a spirit of patience or endurance or fortitude or strength. This is a person who you can trust. He will be of great value. He will get the work done.

(Neg) A person who is stubborn. A person with this attitude will make things difficult for you.

Awake (Person waking up)

A person waking up represents a person who is raised up from spiritual death (born again) and now watchful and alert in spiritual matters. It can also symbolize a Christian who lived an ignorant live but who decided to seek God’s ways and God’s will for his life.

A symbol of a person who really loves Christ. A person who really loves Christ is like a slave who serves his master out of free will. In old-times slaves who were set free could stay on serving their masters. These people took such a servant and they pushed an awl through their earlobes into the door of his residence. With this act the slave became a lifelong servant of his master. The reason these slaves did this was because they were treated very well by their masters. They loved their masters and their families and they really wanted to serve them for life.

An axe symbolizes the judgement of God. An axe is an instrument that is used to cut down a tree. A tree represents a human being. Such a tree, which do not bare any fruit, will be hewn down.

Axe (Dark)

You yourself feel bitter and resentful towards a person. A dark axe symbolizes that you have judgemental feelings towards a person.

Axe (Against the root of a tree)

The judgement of God in a person’s life is imminent.

A baby in dreams symbolizes a spiritual ministry. It means a spiritual ministry is being birthed, has been birthed or will be birthed soon. Just as a baby is the birth of a human being, so in dreams and visions it symbolizes the birth of a ministry.

A baby-boy symbolizes a ministry of renewal.

A baby-girl symbolizes growth and expansion in a ministry.

A symbol of weakness and humility. A person without hair in dreams does not have authority. A bald person driving a powerful black motorcycle symbolizes a person who is weak when it comes to prayer. In spite of praying often he stays negative (black). See the meaning of “motorcycle”. Such a person should pray in tongues or he should learn to pray the word of God with authority. A powerful prayer-life starts with meditating the word. We need to pray the word of God in faith.

A ball in a dream symbolizes an opportunity to speak or to preach. Sport plays an important role in dreams and visions.

Ball (Gold)

A conversation about faith.

Ball (Golf)

A very relaxed discussion about the word of God where each participant gets a turn to speak or to make a declaration. This is a very effective and civilized way of sharing the word of God with each other. The chances of the discussion resulting in an argument are very slim. Participants are not focused on outwitting each other but are really just sharing the word of God without putting any pressure on each other.

Ball (Rugby)

A heated discussion or argument. Rugby is a tough contact sport. People with a gift of teaching often dreams that he or she is involved in a football game. This symbolizes an event or an incident where people will be involved in an emotional or a heated discussion about the word of God.

Ball (Silver)

A conversation about redemption and/or purification. See the colour “silver”

Ball (Tennis)

Preaching or discussion where each one gets a turn to speak. This differs from golf. In tennis each participant is motivated to outflank or outwit each other.
