C – Symbols (The meanings or the interpretation of most symbols in this dictionary are derived from the Bible)

Cake

A cake symbolizes the word of God presented to somebody as words of encouragement. For a better understanding of this symbol, read “Chocolates” first.

Compared to the meaning of Chocolates, cake does have more nutritional value than chocolates. It is made of wheat which symbolizes the word of God. Ingredients are added (with not that much nutritional value) to make it sweet and more enjoyable to eat. This speaks of preaching the word of God or ministering unto people at a level or in a way that makes it a lot more encouraging and enjoyable for them than usual. Let’s face it, sometimes when we feel down we do need encouragement. That is when we need spiritual cake.

In a negative sense, people craving for cake all the time is not balanced. We actually need the real food (meat and bread) in order to grow spiritually.

See “Food” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cake (Carrot)

A carrot cake speaks of words of encouragement to a person or a congregation about the wonderful spiritual nutritional value and breakthroughs that they will or about to receive if they stay rooted in Christ. A carrot is a vegetable that is hidden under the ground. It is there but not so obvious. The green leaves of carrots, which is above ground, display and “announces” the spiritual and financial blessings and prosperity that is not always visible underneath the ground. By staying hidden in Christ there is a lot of benefits for Children of God. A dream of a carrot cake is an exhortation for people having a difficult time staying hidden and seemingly not enjoying the blessings it deserves. At the right time God will “dig” up his servants of excellence and they will proof to be of great spiritual value and blessing.

See “Food” “Chocolates” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cake (Raisin cake)

A raisin cake speaks of words of encouragement to a person or a congregation about spiritual or financial blessings. Raisins speaks of the goodness of God (financial and spiritual blessings prepared, preserved and ready for his children).

See “Food” “Chocolates” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cake (Strawberry cake)

This cake is almost the opposite of a carrot cake. The person eating a strawberry cake lives a life of temporary pleasure. Strawberries are small and above the ground. It speaks of a superficial carefree lifestyle and a person who is only happy with delicious spiritual food.

Sometimes a person dreaming of a strawberry cake is in need of words of exhortation about the possibility of carefree living approaching. Usually many children of God who went through tough and difficult trials and tribulations long for a bit of carefree living. In this sense a piece of strawberry cake is seen as something delicious for a change (carefree living).

God actually wants us to eat carrot cake. He wants us to die in Christ.

See “Food” “Chocolates” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Calendar

Calendars speak of designated or predetermined time periods or the date that something comes into fulfillment. In a dream this speaks of an appointed time. It speaks of a God ordained time of fulfillment.

Calm water

Calm water speaks of the peace of God including a time of rest in terms of the provision (financial) and blessings (spiritual blessings) of God.

Calling and showing something to someone

When you dream of something and in the dream you call or fetch a person to show him or her something in the dream, it means God wants you to share the message of the dream with that person. The dream is not for you alone but also for that person in order to exhort that person or to bring that person up to date in terms of the will of God. This happens a lot with husbands and wives or with family, including our spiritual (Christian) family.

Calves

Calves in dreams and visions speaks of financial and spiritual blessings because of thanksgiving (bullock) and repentance (red heifer). When there are blockages and hindrances preventing us from receiving the blessings of God in our lives, thanksgiving and repentance removes those blockages and hindrances.

Calves (Bullock)

A bullock (young castrated bull) speaks of the Old Testament sacrifice of the “fattened calf” in order to show gratitude towards God for for his goodness. It symbolized the cleansing of unthankfulness, dissatisfaction and discontentment. The fattened calf was actually supposed to be slaughtered and presented as a luxurious “delicacy” on a special occasion. By sacrificing this calf, the offering of thanks and praise to God gets more meaning. It brings forth the fulfillment of even more of God’s blessings and promises in the lives of people. A bullock in dreams therefore speaks of thanksgiving (praising God by singing songs of thankfulness to him) that brings forth the Lord’s abundant financial blessings in our lives.

A bullock also symbolizes the strength or labor or servant-hood of a person. Other additional symbols in a dream will reveal more information about this aspect in a dream or a vision.

Also see “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Calves (Heifer – Red)

A red heifer (young cow usually rosy red) was used as a sin offering in the Old Testament. This was a sacrifice in order to obtain purification. Today we give sacrifices of love unto the Lord. We offer our own fleshly desires in order to obtain the purification of sins. We sacrifice our souls in order to pursue holiness.

In this regard we need to look at the exact colors of heifers in dreams:

Rosy red speaks of a sacrifice of love through a love relationship and the expression of love. We need to repent if we do not have an intimate love relationship with Christ. We need to sacrifice anything that hinders our love relationship with God. This will bring forth the spiritual blessings of God in our lives. In a negative sense rosy red speaks of a person not acting in love but making his own desires a priority, like Esau, who sold his birthright for temporary pleasures (Soup).

Scarlet red speaks of our sins and sinful nature. When we see a scarlet red heifer in dreams we need to repent of sins in our lives. We need to sacrifice our sinful nature for the nature of God. If we repent of all wrongful acts and attitudes in our lives we will cause the spiritual blessings of God to be part of our lives. This is supported by 1 John 3:22, And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Fiery red speaks of conflict and warfare in our lives. We need to put our conflict and personal vendettas aside in order to please God. We need to repent of all conflict which have hatred and jealousy as foundation. When we live in peace with God and with each other spiritual blessings will be part of our lives.

Blood red speaks of the penalty of sin which is death. Death is the opposite of peace which is abundant life in Christ (Spiritually, physically and emotionally). If we repent of disobedience and all our sins, and follow Christ with all our hearts, the blessings of God belong to us and we will enjoy those blessings here on earth and also in the world to come.

Also see “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Camel

A camel has its own water supply which makes it self-sufficient and independent. In this sense water speaks of financial provision. Therefore a camel symbolizes a rich man who is self-sufficient. Rich people do not need God in terms of needs and provision and therefore they rely on their own ability to provide an income. It is exactly for this reason that a person with a camel-like attitude fail to enter the kingdom of God.

A camel also speaks of a person with a prophetic ministry. These people have the anointing of the Holy Spirit on or in them like a camel carries oil (a symbol for the anointing) in the humps on their backs.

A camel also symbolizes service or servant-hood or burden-bearer. This is symbolized by the ability of camels to carry heavy loads for long periods of time without food or water.

Also see “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Canaan

Canaan is a symbol of inheritance gained by a person who is spiritually mature. Such a person took up his position as a king in the kingdom of God. A king is a person who is spiritually mature. Such a person has succeeded in overcoming the circumstances in his life. He reigns as a king in his sphere of influence and over all circumstances in his life. It speaks of a person who knows the principles and laws of the kingdom of God. It speaks of a person who learned to apply the word of God and the principles of God in the kingdom of God.

In a negative sense Israel ultimately took possession of only 10% (30,000 square miles instead of the promised 300,000 square miles). Christians today also do not live according to the full potential God intended for them. One hundred percent Divine provision, Divine protection, Divine healing and Divine maintenance are at all times available to us but we just do not completely take up our inheritance. We do not live to our full potential.

Candle

A candle is a symbol of light. A person dreaming of a candle is reminded of our responsibility to be a light in this dark world. We should make the word of God available to this world.

It also symbolizes the spirit of man in the sense that we light up our whole inner being and it searches all the “rooms” of our heart. It illuminates the ways of God and Godly motivation to the soul. The spirit of man therefore is a light (candle) for the soul.

Candle stick

A candle stick is a symbol of the light-bearers of God. Jesus Christ and the church are the lights that illuminate this dark world. In this sense a candle symbolizes a congregation or the church.

Captain

A captain is a symbol for some kind of spiritual leadership similar to Christ being the captain of our salvation.

Castle

A castle symbolizes a spiritual stronghold (strong place or situation). Jesus is our castle. He is the strong tower in which we can run into and be safe (saved). A stronghold holds something safely or it is a state of safety. It is also a state of authority and protection.

Faith in the word of God is also a spiritual stronghold. The word of God itself is a spiritual stronghold. We can always, under any and under all circumstances trust in the word of God. His word never fails and it stands firm in the heavens forever. It is established forever and ever.

Unfortunately the devil also has strongholds. He builds up strongholds in our minds. All the lies that we belief are slowly but surely being established in our minds until it becomes strongholds. A stronghold is a thought pattern that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking. It is formed brick-by-brick by repetitive faulty thinking. It is a predominant train of thought reinforced with reasoning and opinions that are contrary to the Word of God. Strongholds are thoughts, not spirits.

When we dream of negative fortresses (castles) it always refer to the strongholds in our minds.

What should we do when we dream of negative strongholds in our minds? How do we deal with negative strongholds? Do we get involved in spiritual warfare? No, the Bible says that we should demolish every arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we should take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. We should cast these castles down by replacing faulty thinking with the word of God. It is as easy as that.

Dreams of negative stronghold in our lives are warnings that we are exposed and that the enemy can cause harm to us because of this. The reason why we are exposed is because we allowed the enemy to build a fortress of lies around our minds. As soon as the lies become a pattern of faulty thinking it becomes a fortress. It is not so much about taking authority in the Spirit as it is about renewing our thoughts. You can take all the authority you like and cast down castles and evil strongholds as often as you like and as long as you want. That will not make the difference. The victory lies in the renewal of our minds.

See “Colors” for a better understanding of the different colored castles.

Castle (Blue)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Castle (Green)

In a positive sense a green castle symbolizes a financial stronghold resulting in financial prosperity.

In a negative sense it symbolizes intellectual knowledge and intellectual reasoning playing a dominant role in a person’s mind. Such a person puts his own knowledge and own thoughts above the word of God. Such a person is strangled in his own legalistic thoughts and reasoning based on logical facts as the only or at least the dominant source for dealing with life’s issues.

A pale green castle also symbolizes a negative stronghold when a person relies on his own flesh to obtain prosperity in stead of the provision of God. It also speaks of people trusting in finances instead of God. (A stronghold is a thought pattern that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Castle (Pink)

A pink castle symbolizes a stronghold of the enemy in our minds which was set up by negative thoughts because of emotions and feelings of self-pity, or sentimental arguments. (A stronghold is a thought pattern that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking)

Cemetery

A cemetery speaks of old financial debts, spiritual matters and other matters settled a long time ago. Dreaming of a cemetery is probably a affirmation that we do not owe another person anything in a particular situation. It might also mean that we are not to insist on another person paying us something that we feel or think that he still owes us. Dreaming of a coffin (not buried) is quite a different story. This means that the dept is not yet settled or dealt with.

See “Coffin” and “Cemetery” and “Funeral”.

Censer

A censer is a symbol for prayer or intercession or praise. We enter the courts of our heavenly King with praise and worship (censer) and there in his presence we humble ourselves before him in prayer and intercession. When a person is slapped through the face in a dream it speaks of a person treated in a rough manner which leads to being offended. Remember that we should always offer the other cheek when we are offended. It means that we should not retaliate or get involved in a situation of unnecessary conflict.

A cheek also symbolizes a time of testing or suffering. Seeing this symbol in a dream is a warning of a time of testing and suffering approaching.

Chess

Chess symbolizes tactical reasoning. It is all about outmaneuvering your opponent with clever reasoning in order to put him in a checkmate situation. We dream about chess boards or playing chess whenever we are in financial positions where a person or people who wants us to fail do and say whatever they can to achieve just that. This is actually true for many other situations or challenges. It can also symbolize a person who asks tricky questions and who makes tricky statements in order to win the argument as soon as we are in a “checkmate” position by us failing to counter clever reasoning. Seeing this in a dream is a warning for you to be ready for a very clever intellectual argument.

A person failing or refusing to swallow food in a dream but instead spewing it out speaks of a person who rejected God’s word. Also see “Teeth” and “Food” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Chicken

Chickens are known for eating just about everything. They will search all over and whatever they find they will eat. They have a very limited sense of disapproval towards the food they find. Chickens therefore symbolizes people who do not take every thought into captivity. When a chicken sees something to eat the next moment its gone. People with this attitude behave the same with thoughts. When it comes up they accept it and they accommodate it. This is the reason why many people are experiencing a lot of chaos and even demonic oppression in their lives. Remember that toxic thoughts come from evil spirits, sometimes through people. It is important that we do not “eat” anything we hear. We are supposed to eat the word of God only. See “Food” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Sometimes a chicken speaks of betrayal such as what happened with Simon Peter when he betrayed our Lord.

Also see “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Child (Children)

Eating chocolates is indulging yourself, for a change, with something other than the usual food knowing that it does not have much nutritional value. Remember that we do not eat chocolate for its nutritional value but rather for enjoyment. There is nothing wrong with that. In dreams, a person eating chocolates speaks of a person who wants to hear very encouraging words for a change, from God or from another person. It is like taking a break from the normal challenging situations in life by giving yourself some relaxing and enjoyable encouragement. This speaks of a type of a reward that we give ourselves.

Cigarettes

Dreaming that you are smoking a cigarette in the presence of a specific person or group of people or dreaming that you throw a cigarette butt at them, symbolizes that you offended that person or the group of people. If somebody does that to you in a dream it means that the specific person offended you. Sometimes the person is unknown to you symbolizing that the person represents a type of person or a group of people.

Smoking sometimes symbolizes the religious activities of the unrighteous. These people perform dead religious acts like the pharisees did. Although it seems right it actually offends God and it offends true believers. The way Jesus reacted to the religious acts and rituals of the pharisees is an indication of how God feels about it. It really offends him. Although these acts are usually carried out by the unrighteous, Christians are sometimes tricked into doing the same. That also offends God and it offends true believers.

In another sense, people can and may offend other people by showing contempt, pride, arrogance, unforgiveness, envy, bitterness, jealousy and self-righteousness symbolized by smoking cigarettes in dreams and visions. For instance, a person smoking a pipe speaks of intellectual pride or arrogance. People counseling other people in an arrogant way showing no empathy for the person or for the situation in which he finds himself, will not be well received by the person he is counseling. The person will actually be offended by that type of counseling and will actually withdraw from it. In this sense smoke symbolizes arrogant, worthless and empty words because of the lack of genuine concern and the presence of arrogance and pride.

See “Smoke” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Clay

Clay is a symbol of frailty of human flesh. It speaks of the weaknesses of mankind. It also speaks of the fleshly nature of humankind. God changed all that when we were born of the Holy Spirit through Christ. We however still need to crucify the flesh through obedience and through pursuing holiness. For instance, a person with a mustache of clay symbolizes a person who speaks fleshly words.

See “Sand”.

Cliffs

Cliffs symbolize an obstacle that needs to be removed or conquered. Usually when we dream of cliffs it speaks of quite challenging obstacles or situations in our lives. Cliffs symbolize obstacles causing depression or doubt and unbelief because of the overwhelming nature of situations that we sometimes need to face. Do not forget, there is absolutely no obstacle that cannot be overcome in any of our lives. God always gives the way out, and the power and grace, to overcome absolutely anything and everything in our lives. As long as we trust and believe him and his word we are always covered. I like the phrase, “God can be utterly trusted”, because this phrase proved to be true every time I faced serious problems in my life.

When rocks are loose and falling in dreams and you or another person need to take evasive action whilst climbing the cliffs, it speaks of you or such a person really going through a rough time. This indicates that you have to conquer really difficult situations in your lives. Sometimes there is about no place on the rock face where you can grab onto as well. Dreams like these are God’s affirmation that He is with you and that you will conquer the dire situation. He is exhorting you but also motivating you to be strong and courageous and not to give up.

Clothing (Apparel)

Clothing symbolize our spiritual preparation for ministry. Not only the five-fold ministry but also the preparation of the ministry of each and every child of God is symbolized by the clothes we wear. A closet in dreams also reveals how well a person has been prepared for ministry. The clothes you have in your closet tell a story. It tells everything about a person’s preparation for ministry.

Clouds

Clouds have three distinct meanings in dreams and visions. It’s first meaning is its potential to become a rain cloud. Clouds carry water and therefore it carries blessings. See “Water”. Depending on the color of clouds, it symbolizes different divine spiritual or financial blessings.

Some clouds in dreams and visions do not refer to their capacity or potential to carry water but to the fact that clouds also refer to groups of people. The Bible speaks of a cloud of witnesses. A group of people who stand united in testifying about the same thing, like the gospel of Christ or the goodness of God, together influence the atmosphere in a certain place. For this reason clouds often symbolize or reveal the atmosphere in a certain place caused by influences or other situations. See “Clouds (Dark or black)” or “Clouds (Red)”, etc.

Clouds also symbolizes divine covering or guidance or protection or oversight in certain situations.

Clouds (Dark or black)

Dark clouds symbolizes an atmosphere of depression or doubt or unbelief. This is often the result of a person being influenced by evil spirits. At first a person might have had dreams of black snakes. These dreams were warnings indicating that a person was going to be or being deceived by evil forces with the aim of causing doubt and unbelief. If such a person did not heed to those warnings, the next dream could be or would be a dream showing dark clouds rolling in from the right to the left. This speaks of an atmosphere of doubt, depression or unbelief caused by negative influences.

Dark clouds also symbolizes devastation and conflict caused by people. It depends who you prayed for (the people that you prayed for or pondered about). In this sense clouds symbolizes people or a group of negative people causing an atmosphere of doubt and unbelief. Similar to white clouds symbolizing a group of witnesses (people) for God, dark clouds can symbolize a group of negative witnesses (Joshua and Caleb with a good report verses the other ten spies with a bad report).

Clouds (Red)

Red clouds symbolizes an atmosphere of strife and conflict. This indicates that certain people (a group of people) are living in conflict and strife which causes an atmosphere of conflict.

Clouds (White)

White clouds symbolizes a Holy Spirit filled atmosphere of victory, glory and the blessings of God. When you see white clouds in a vision or in a dream it speaks of blessings appearing. These blessings can be spiritual blessings like breakthroughs, growth, expansion or promotion. It can also be financial or natural blessings depending on what you prayed for. It also depends for who you prayed. These blessings can be applied to a specific person, a church or even a nation. It really depends who was prayed for or who was on your mind before you received the vision or the dream. White clouds symbolize blessings and victory but can also symbolize an atmosphere of victory.

Cloven (Hooves)

Animals that chew the cud (Symbolizes the mediation on God’s word) and have cloven hooves (Symbolizes separation from the world because of God’s word) are clean.

Animals that do not have cloven hooves (symbolizes the unrighteous) or that do have cloven hooves (symbolizes that they did separate themselves from the world) but do not chew the cud (symbolizes that they separated from the world not because of God’s word but through self-righteousness) are not clean.

Seeing an angel with cloven hooves indicate that it is fact a demon pretending to be righteous (symbolized by the cloven hooves such as a goat).

Also see “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cobra

See “snake”

Cockroach

Cockroaches symbolize pests in the church. In stead of being spiritually led, they are led by there own thoughts. They are also being led by their own feelings when seeking spiritual food and not by the Holy Spirit. Just as cockroaches hide in the dark, so these people also hide their advice and guidance from God and other people.

Coffin

A coffin speaks of unfinished financial, spiritual or other matters. It speaks of unresolved issues. When we see a coffin in dreams it means that the relevant issue is not buried yet. It means the issue still exists. This happens a lot when it comes to very old emotional issues where it is not just a matter of overcoming the negative emotions but involves physically rectifying or repairing the outstanding matters. It means paying off old financial debts, honoring contracts or honoring promises. When a coffin is placed into the grave and buried it means that the issue is now resolved.

Very important in this matter is that with this symbol the word “dept” is a keyword. We owe it to God, to other people and to financial institutions to pay our debts, whether it is a financial dept or a spiritual dept, it does not matter. We always have to pay all our debts.

See “Funeral” and “Cemetery” and “Postmortem”.

Constipation

When we dream that we have constipation it means that we, for some reason, cannot relieve ourselves properly. This speaks of a temporary inability to repent and confess inner emotional issues and sins in our lives. See “Toilet (Passing solids)”. Constipation is caused by us not being willing to repent or confess inner issues that we are struggling with. We might be eating wrong spiritual food (See “Food”) that might be causing the problem. It might be caused by fear to deal with old issues or it might be because of spiritual hemorrhoids (See “Hemorrhoids”).

Courtyard

Cow

A cow is universally regarded as the provider of nourishment and prosperity. For this reason it symbolizes financial provision and prosperity. It speaks of seasonal provision or a system in which we can be provided for. I once had a dream of a dairy cow facing the left side in the visionary field of my dream and therefore indicating financial provisions not coming in immediately as it was supposed to (See “directions in dreams and visions”). The cow was being milked with an automatic milking system which indicated a good steady financial income. After this dream I had to wait quite a while before I received quite a substantial amount of finances (donations) from a specific person, every month, for more than two years. This season of abundant income was symbolized by a dairy cow being milked by an automatic milking system. The reason why I did not receive this income earlier was probably due to me and my wife not acting in faith like God intended for us at that stage in our spiritual journey of faith.

In another sense, like a bull, a cow can also symbolize a negative attitude. While a bull is aggressive, a cow’s resistance towards God and anointed people are more passive. This passive resistance can be described as being stiff necked or having a passive rebellious attitude. It can symbolize a person being unwilling to do what is right or what is expected from him or her. Because of this passive rebellion, people with this attitude are sometimes unwilling in giving just as a cow sometimes “selfishly” withdrawing her milk does.

In another sense a cow can also symbolize a person who regards other things more important than God. Such people are often very ignorant of Biblical truths and the ways of God.

Creatures (Of the sea)

Symbols in this category speaks of man’s spirit, which is hidden from other people. Just like creatures of the sea are hidden under the surface of the water, so man hides his true nature from other people. When you dream of a creature of the sea the spirit of a person is revealed to you. When you dream that a creature of the sea comes up out of the water it means that the spirit of a certain person will be self-exposed. Such a person will probably act in such a way that he exposes himself.

Cross (Blue and empty)

An empty blue cross symbolizes the revelations of the Holy Spirit in one’s life through the death of oneself and the death of one’s own abilities. It is not possible to find or receive these revelations unless you die in yourself and in the trust of your own abilities. An empty cross is not symbolizing the cross of Jesus but your own cross that you must carry if you wish to follow Jesus.

Cross (White and empty)

A white cross symbolizes righteousness through faith in the knowledge of the resurrection power that raised Jesus Christ from the death. Again this cross symbolizes your own decision to die in yourself for Christ in order to partake with Him, not only in his resurrection but also in his death.
