C – Symbols (The meanings or the interpretation of most symbols in this dictionary are derived from the Bible)

Cake

Leviticus 7:12-13

12 If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried.

13 Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.

Numbers 15:20

Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an heave offering: as ye do the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall ye heave it.

Hosea 7:8

Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

Jeremiah 7:18

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

Jeremiah 44:19

And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

A cake symbolizes the word of God presented to somebody as words of encouragement. For a better understanding of this symbol, read “Chocolate” first.

Compared to the meaning of chocolate, a cake does have more nutritional value than chocolate. It is made of wheat which symbolizes the word of God. Ingredients are added (with not that much nutritional value) to make it sweet and more enjoyable to eat. This speaks of preaching the word of God or ministering unto people at a level or in a way that makes it a lot more encouraging and enjoyable for them than usual. Let’s face it, sometimes when we feel down we do need encouragement. That is when we need spiritual cake.

In a negative sense, people craving for a cake all the time is not balanced. We actually need real food (meat and bread) to grow spiritually. A cake also speaks of worship and thanksgiving. In this sense, people crave words of adoration and gratitude of people because they feel drained or unappreciated. Such words of gratitude will be very encouraging for people in this emotional condition.

See “Food” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cake (Carrot)

A carrot cake speaks of words of encouragement, gratitude, and appreciation to a person or a congregation about the wonderful spiritual nutritional value and breakthroughs that they will receive or about to receive if they stay rooted in Christ. A carrot is a vegetable that is hidden under the ground. It is there but not so obvious. The green leaves of carrots, which is above ground, display and “announces” the spiritual and financial blessings and prosperity that is not always visible underneath the ground. By staying hidden in Christ there is a lot of benefits for Children of God. A dream of a carrot cake is an exhortation for people having a difficult time staying hidden and seemingly not enjoying the blessings it deserves. At the right time, God will “dig” up their blessings and they will receive his blessings.

See “Food” “Chocolate” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Cake (Strawberry cake)

This cake is almost the opposite of a carrot cake. The person eating a strawberry cake in dreams and visions lives a life of temporary pleasure. Strawberries are small and above the ground. It speaks of a superficial carefree lifestyle and a person who is only happy with delicious spiritual food.

Sometimes a person dreaming of a strawberry cake is in need of words of exhortation about the possibility of carefree living approaching. Usually, many children of God who went through tough and difficult trials and tribulations long for a bit of carefree living. In this sense, a piece of strawberry cake is seen as something delicious for a change (carefree living).

God actually wants us to eat carrot cake and even better, bread and meat. He wants us to die in Christ.

See “Food” “Chocolate” and “Snacks (Salty)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Calamities

Deuteronomy 7:12-15

12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

15 And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Sicknesses and diseases and calamities in dreams and visions symbolize substandard spiritual conditions in the lives of people. It speaks of them being sick in a spiritual sense and not living according to the will of God. It speaks of them being sinful and because of that paying the price for their sins.

See “Diseases” and “Doctor (Sisters and nurses)”

Calling someone to show him or her something in a dream

When you dream of something and in the dream, you call or fetch a person to show him or her something in the dream, it means God wants you to share the message of the dream to that person. Take note of the specific “symbol” that you showed the person in the dream because that is the core message that you need to share with that person. This means that the dream is not for you alone but also for that person to exhort that person or to bring that person up to date with the will of God. This happens a lot with husbands and wives or with family, including our spiritual (Christian) family.

Calves (Bullock)

Hebrews 13:15

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

A bullock (young castrated bull) speaks of the Old Testament sacrifice of the “fattened calf” to show gratitude toward God for his goodness. It symbolized the cleansing of ungratefulness, dissatisfaction, and discontentment. The fattened calf was actually supposed to be slaughtered and presented as a luxurious “delicacy” on a special occasion. By sacrificing this calf, the offering of thanks and praise to God gets more meaning. It brings forth the fulfillment of even more of God’s blessings and promises in the lives of people. A Bullock in dreams thus speaks of thanksgiving (praising God by singing songs of thankfulness to him) that brings forth the Lord’s abundant financial blessings in our lives.

A bullock also symbolizes the strength or labor or servant-hood of a person. It is about a person being willing to serve and about such a person being spiritually capable to do that. Other symbols in a dream will reveal more information about this aspect in a dream or a vision.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Calves (Heifer – Red)

Numbers 19:12

He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.

Isaiah 1:18

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

A red heifer (young cow usually rosy red) was used as a sin offering in the Old Testament. This was a sacrifice to get purification. Today we give sacrifices of love unto the Lord. We offer our own fleshly desires to obtain the purification of sins (holiness). We sacrifice our souls to pursue holiness.

In this regard we need to look at the exact colors of heifers in dreams:

Rosy red speaks of a sacrifice of love through a love relationship and the expression of love. We need to repent if we do not have an intimate love relationship with Christ. We need to sacrifice anything that hinders our love relationship with God. This will bring forth the spiritual blessings of God in our lives. In a negative sense, rosy red speaks of a person not acting in love but making his own desires a priority, like Esau, who sold his birthright for temporary pleasures (Soup).

Scarlet red speaks of our sins and sinful nature. When we see a scarlet red heifer in dreams we need to repent of sins in our lives. We need to sacrifice our sinful nature for the nature of God. If we repent of all wrongful acts and attitudes in our lives we will cause the spiritual blessings of God to be part of our lives. This is supported by 1 John 3:22, And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Revelation 6:4

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

Revelation 9:12

One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.

Revelation 12:3

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

Fiery red speaks of conflict and warfare in our lives. We need to put our conflict and personal vendettas aside to please God, as a sacrifice to him. We need to repent of all conflict which has hatred and jealousy as a foundation. When we live in peace with God and with each other spiritual blessings will be part of our lives.

Blood red speaks of the penalty of sin which is death. Death is the opposite of peace which is abundant life in Christ (Spiritually, physically and emotionally). If we repent of disobedience and of our sins and follow Christ with all our hearts, the blessings of God belong to us and we will enjoy those blessings here on earth and also in the world to come.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Canaan

Revelation 21:7

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Psalm 105:11

Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance

Ephesians 1:17-18

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.

Canaan is a symbol of inheritance gained by a person who is spiritually mature. Such a person took up his position as a king in the kingdom of God. A king is a person who is spiritually mature. Such a person has succeeded in overcoming the circumstances in his life. He reigns as a king in his sphere of influence and over all circumstances in his life. It speaks of a person who knows the principles and laws of the kingdom of God. It speaks of a person who learned to apply the word of God and the principles of God in the kingdom of God.

In a negative sense, Israel ultimately took possession of only 10% (30,000 square miles instead of the promised 300,000 square miles). Christians today also do not live according to the full potential God intended for them. One hundred percent Divine provision, Divine protection, Divine healing, and Divine maintenance are at all times available to us but we just do not completely take up our inheritance. We do not live to our full potential because of unbelief and disobedience.

Candle

Revelation 4:5

And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Proverbs 20:27

The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

A candle is a symbol of light. Christ is the Light of this world and we as his ambassadors are lights. The church is the light that illuminates this dark world. Candles in dreams thus speak of either the church or a congregation or a group of people or a specific person. A person dreaming of a candle is reminded of our responsibility to be a light in this dark world. We should make the word of God available to this world. We should not hide our candles or our lamps under a bucket. See “Lamp”

In another sense, a candle symbolizes the spirit of man in the sense that we light up our whole inner being and it searches all the “rooms” of our heart. It illuminates the ways of God and divine motivation to the soul. The spirit of man thus is a light (candle) for the soul.

Canker-worm

Joel 2:25

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

A canker-worm is a symbol of destructive powers. These powers have the ability to steal our spiritual and financial blessings from us if we allow them to do so. A dream or vision of canker-worms is usually a warning. It speaks of people being vulnerable because of unbelief or disobedience.

Cassia (Cinnamon)

Ezekiel 27:19

Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.

Psalm 45:8

All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

Cassia and cinnamon are almost identical (both belong to the same family of plants) but cassia is a lot more nutritious and tastes a lot different and better. Both, of course, are the wood, or bark of a plant, which is ground up. The nutrients are found in its intrinsic oils.

Dreaming of cassia or cinnamon speaks of a fragrance produced through crushing and suffering. It speaks of people and of course the church who, like Christ, are willing to suffer hardship and inconvenience to proclaim and preach the gospel of Christ.

Castle

2 Corinthians 10:4

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.

A castle symbolizes a spiritual stronghold (a strong place or good protection). Jesus is our castle. He is the strong tower into which we can run into and be safe (saved). A stronghold holds something safely or it symbolizes a state of safety. It is also a state of authority and protection.

Faith in the word of God is also a spiritual stronghold. The word of God itself is a spiritual stronghold. We can always, under any and under all circumstances trust in the word of God. His word never fails and it stands firm in the heavens forever. It is established forever and ever.

Unfortunately, the devil also has strongholds. He builds up strongholds in our minds. All the lies that we believe are slowly but surely being established in our minds until it becomes strongholds. A stronghold is a thought pattern that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking. It is formed “brick-by-brick” by repetitive faulty thinking. It is a predominant train of thought reinforced with reasoning and opinions that are contrary to the Word of God. Strongholds are thoughts, not evil spirits.

When we dream of negative fortresses (castles) it always refers to the strongholds in our minds.

What should we do when we dream of negative strongholds in our minds? How do we deal with negative strongholds? Do we get involved in spiritual warfare? No, the Bible says that we should demolish every argument and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we should take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. We should cast these castles down by replacing faulty thinking with the word of God. It is as easy as that.

Dreams of negative strongholds in our lives are warnings that we are exposed and that the enemy can cause harm to us because of this. The reason why we are exposed is that we allowed the enemy to build a fortress of lies around our minds. As soon as the lies become a pattern of faulty thinking it becomes a fortress. It is not so much about taking authority in the Spirit as it is about renewing our thoughts. You can take all the authority you like and cast down castles and evil strongholds as often as you like and as long as you want. That will not make the difference. The victory lies in the renewal of our minds.

A positive stronghold is a positive thought pattern (word of God) that forms a fortress around the mind which protects the spirit, soul, and body. A negative stronghold is a negative thought pattern (lies and bad or toxic thoughts) that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking, causing the spirit, soul, and body to be unguarded.

See “Colors” for a better understanding of the different colored castles.

Castle (Black)

A black castle symbolizes a stronghold of the enemy in our minds resulting in unbelief or fear or depression. Negative thoughts which caused us to doubt in God and in his word eventually became a stronghold in our minds resulting in unbelief, fear, and depression. (A negative stronghold is a negative thought pattern (lies and bad or toxic thoughts) that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking, causing the spirit, soul, and body to be unguarded)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol. See “Colors in dreams and visions (Black)”

Castle (Golden)

A golden castle symbolizes a spiritual stronghold of victory due to faith in the word of God and in his promises, resulting in abundance and prosperity. The devil cannot steal your prosperity and he cannot threaten or jeopardize your state of well-being because of your faith in God and his word. (A positive stronghold is a positive thought pattern (word of God) that forms a fortress around the mind which protects the spirit, soul, and body)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol. See “Colors in dreams and visions (Gold)”

Castle (Green)

In a positive sense, a green castle symbolizes a financial stronghold resulting in financial prosperity. (A positive stronghold is a positive thought pattern (word of God) that forms a fortress around the mind which protects the spirit, soul, and body)

In a negative sense, it symbolizes intellectual knowledge and intellectual reasoning playing a dominant role in a person’s mind. Such a person puts his own knowledge and own thoughts above the word of God. Such a person is strangled in his own legalistic thoughts and reasoning based on logical facts as the only or at least the dominant source for dealing with life’s issues. (A negative stronghold is a negative thought pattern (lies and bad or toxic thoughts) that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking, causing the spirit, soul, and body to be unguarded)

A pale green castle symbolizes a negative stronghold when a person relies on his own flesh to obtain prosperity instead of the provision of God. It also speaks of people trusting in finances instead of God. (A negative stronghold is a negative thought pattern (lies and bad or toxic thoughts) that forms a fortress around the mind, holding it prisoner to faulty thinking, causing the spirit, soul, and body to be unguarded)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol. See “Colors in dreams and visions (Green)”

Castle (Purple)

A purple castle symbolizes a spiritual stronghold of victory after reconciliation, redemption or forgiveness resulting in restored relationships and right-standing with God and people. The redemptive work of Jesus, through his blood and through the sacrifice of his body (the Lamb of God), ensured permanent victory and protection. We are sealed in Christ. (A positive stronghold is a positive thought pattern (word of God) that forms a fortress around the mind which protects the spirit, soul, and body)

See “Castle” for a better understanding of this symbol. See “Colors in dreams and visions (Purple)”

Cat

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

James 4:6

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Just like a leopard, cats also symbolize people who are rebellious and blasphemous toward God. Not as aggressive and arrogant as a leopard who openly rises against God but cats still represent arrogance and pride against God and his kingdom, especially when it comes to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Cat (Black)

A black cat speaks of arrogant based on unbelief. Such people tend to influence other people not to trust God. They are a bit dominant when dealing with other people in this regard.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Catering

Catering symbolizes a person who specializes in spiritual teaching. Such a person has a professional ministry of preparing special spiritual food for special events (five-fold ministry – teaching).

In a natural sense, catering can symbolize a person who is involved in any kind of non-spiritual teaching.

Cedar tree

See “Tree (Cedar)”

Cemetery

A cemetery speaks of old financial debts, spiritual matters or non-spiritual matters settled a long time ago. In this sense, dreaming of a cemetery is a positive thing. Dreaming of a cemetery is probably an affirmation that we do not owe another person anything in a particular situation. It might also mean that we are not to insist on another person paying us something that we feel or think that he still owes us.

Dreaming of a coffin (not buried) is quite a different story. This means that the debt is not yet settled or dealt with. It is not laid to rest and people still need to act on the particular situation. Whether it speaks of financial debt, unfinished spiritual matters or non-spiritual matters depends on the particular situation and whatever you pondered on before the dream.

See “Coffin” and “Cemetery” and “Funeral”

Chaff

Matthew 3:12

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Isaiah 33:11

Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you.

Chaff is a symbol for things in our lives which have no spiritual value. Those things should be removed from our lives because it serves no purpose other than causing hindrances and a sense of false peace. It cannot be used for any good in our spiritual development and growth.

Chain

See “Bind”

Chariot

See “Vehicle (Chariot)”

Chess

Chess symbolizes tactical reasoning. It is all about outmaneuvering your opponent with clever reasoning to put him in a checkmate situation. We dream about chess boards or playing chess whenever we are in financial positions where a person or people who want us to fail act so they can achieve just that. These actions include strategic arguments. This is actually true for many other situations or challenges.

In another sense, it symbolizes a person who asks tricky questions and who makes tricky statements to win an argument. As soon as we are in a “checkmate” position by us failing to counter clever reasoning these people feel that they have accomplished what they intended to do. Seeing this in a dream is a warning for you to be ready for a very clever intellectual argument.

See “Games (Sport/Playing)” to understand the reason why we dream of “chess”

Chew

Revelation 10:9

And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

Proverbs 13:25

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Revelation 2:7

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life (Christ Jesus the Word of God), which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Chewing food speaks of the meditation on God’s word. We bite off small pieces of food, chew on it and then we swallow it. This is exactly what we do when we meditate on the word of God. A person failing or refusing to swallow food in a dream but instead spewing it out speaks of a person who rejected God’s word. See “Teeth” and “Food” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Audio and Written Versions: Dreams Interpretation Session 6

In a negative sense, meditating on lies from the enemy as well as negative words from other people can also be symbolized in dreams by chewing on food. In such a case chewing contaminated food or poisonous food in dreams and visions indicates that it is not from God but lies aimed at bringing harm and defeat in the lives of people.

Child (Children)

Luke 16:8

And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Matthew 13:38

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one.

Ephesians 4:14

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

Children in dreams and visions symbolize Christians who are immature and still under guardianship. These are people who need to be spiritually protected and supported by mature Christians.

Chimpanzee

See “Ape”

Cigarettes

Isaiah 65:3,5

3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

Dreaming that you are smoking a cigarette in the presence of a specific person or group of people or dreaming that you throw a cigarette butt at them, symbolizes that you offended that person or the group of people. If somebody does that to you in a dream it means that the specific person offended you. Sometimes the person is unknown to you symbolizing that the person represents a type of person or a group of people.

Smoking sometimes symbolizes the religious activities of the unrighteous. These people perform dead religious acts as the Pharisees did. Although it seems right it actually offends God and it offends true believers. The way Jesus reacted to the religious acts and rituals of the Pharisees shows how God feels about it. It really offends him. Although these acts are usually carried out by the unrighteous, Christians are sometimes tricked into doing the same. That also offends God and it offends true believers.

In another sense, people can and may offend other people by showing contempt, pride, arrogance, unforgiveness, envy, bitterness, jealousy and self-righteousness symbolized by smoking cigarettes in dreams and visions.

For instance, a person smoking a pipe speaks of intellectual pride or arrogance. People counseling other people in an arrogant way showing no empathy for the person or for the situation in which he finds himself, will not be well received by the person he is counseling. The person will actually be offended by that type of counseling and will actually withdraw from it. In this sense, smoke symbolizes arrogant, worthless and empty words because of the lack of genuine concern and the presence of arrogance and pride.

See “Smoke” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Circle

See “Shapes in dreams and visions (Circle)”

Cistern

Jeremiah 2:13

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Isaiah 36:16

Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern.

A container holding water like a tank is a symbol of man’s spiritual or financial blessings supply. It is something he has with which he can bless other people. If such a person, in a dream, goes from place to place with this container and pour out this water onto people or a town or village it speaks of such a person pouring out spiritual blessings unto other people. The tank, in this sense, actually represents the person himself. The blessings of God is actually in us. See “Fruit” A person like this is usually an itinerant worker but it can also speak of a person reaching people through the Internet or through some other type of medium like books and so forth.

Clapping hands

Psalm 47:1

O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

Psalm 98:8

Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together.

Isaiah 55:12

For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

The clapping of hands in dreams symbolizes joy, rejoicing, and the exaltation of God.

Cliffs

Cliffs symbolize an obstacle that needs to be removed or conquered. Usually, when we dream of cliffs it speaks of quite challenging obstacles or situations in our lives. Cliffs symbolize obstacles causing depression or doubt and unbelief because of the overwhelming nature of situations that we sometimes need to face. Do not forget, there is absolutely no obstacle that cannot be overcome in any of our lives. God always gives the way out, and the power and grace, to overcome absolutely anything and everything in our lives. As long as we trust and believe him and his word we are always covered.

I like the phrase, “God can be utterly trusted” because this phrase proved to be true every time I faced serious problems in my life.

A man I know once had a dream of him walking down the street to the bottom of a cliff. He was followed by a group of people. When he reached the cliff he just miraculously kept on walking right up against the vertical cliff as if it was as flat as the street beneath him. The people followed him without hesitation. He led the people right to and over the top and they just kept walking.

With this dream, God confirmed that He will use this man to lead people and the church to new levels of spiritual heights irrespective of the challenges that he and they will have to face on this road or mission that they were embarking on. God confirmed that if they were obedient and courageous and just keep walking (persevering) He will make the challenges and the obstacles like flat ground.

Overcoming difficult situations in life is not always that easy. Dreaming of loose rocks falling down a cliff and you need to take evasive action whilst climbing the cliff speaks of you or such a person really going through a rough time in life. This indicates that you have to conquer really difficult situations in your life. Sometimes there is about no place on the rock face where you can grab onto as well.

Dreams like these are God’s affirmation that He is with you and that you will conquer the dire situation or extremely difficult circumstances. No matter how difficult it seems. He is exhorting you but also motivating you to be strong and courageous and not to give up.

Clothing (Apparel)

Revelation 3:5,18

5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

Isaiah 63:1-3

1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

2 Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

Clothing symbolizes our spiritual preparation for ministry and/or for life. It represents what we are doing or busy with. Not only the five-fold ministry but also the preparation of the ministry of every child of God is symbolized by the clothes we wear. When we clothe ourselves spiritually we are actually equipping ourselves (preparing ourselves) with the ability to function in the spiritual kingdom of God.

A person with a crown on his head, clothed with the attire of a king and holding a staff in his right hand speaks of a person who is spiritually mature.

Some clothes speak of ability and authority, some clothes speak of protection, some clothes speak of attitude, some clothes speak of spiritual conditions, some clothes speak of certain spiritual tasks, some clothes speak of strength and power, some clothes speak of perfection, etc.

Clothing (Dirty and torn)

Isaiah 64:6

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Dirty or filthy rags symbolizes a person who is unrighteous. He chose this unrighteous lifestyle and he chose to live without God or Christ. This speaks of a person who is lost and who lives in sin and in spiritual chaos.

When you dream of a known Christian dressed like this you need to pray for him. It speaks of him backsliding and falling back into unrighteous acts of sin. This speaks of his spiritual condition in such a person’s life that needs to be addressed. You should pray for him and appeal to him to repent and to find his way back to Christ.

Closet

Matthew 6:6

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

A closet symbolizes a place of secrecy or privacy or loneliness in a person’s life. In a person’s own bedroom in his personal closet is the place where he keeps his personal belongings, away from public eyes. It is also in personal closets where people hide their secrets.

A closet in dreams also reveals how well a person has been prepared for ministry. The clothes you have in your closet tell a story. It tells everything about a person’s preparation for ministry or for a particular job or mission.

See also
Symbols Of Animals In Dreams and Visions

The closet also tells a story. When it is old or rusted or damaged it symbolizes that their spiritual preparation has man-made or old doctrines of men as a basis. This speaks of the need of this person to replace old and erroneous doctrines with authentic and truly Biblical based doctrines. It also speaks of the need for such a person being spiritually prepared for ministry the right way.

The colors and the conditions of clothes as well words written on clothes and patterns on the fabric (color schemes) all play a part pertaining to the meanings of the different symbols in the dream, or vision.

Clouds (Dark or black)

Dark clouds symbolize an atmosphere of depression or doubt or unbelief. This is often the result of a person being influenced by evil spirits. At first, a person might have had dreams of black snakes. These dreams were warnings indicating that a person was being deceived or going to be deceived by evil forces with the aim of causing doubt and unbelief. If such a person did not heed to those warnings, the next dream could be or would be a dream showing dark clouds rolling in from the right to the left. This speaks of an atmosphere of doubt, depression or unbelief caused by negative influences.

Zephaniah 1:15

That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness…

In another sense, dark clouds symbolize devastation and conflict caused by people. It depends on whom you prayed for (the people that you prayed for or pondered about). In this sense, clouds symbolize people or a group of negative people causing an atmosphere of doubt and unbelief. Just as white clouds symbolizing a group of witnesses (people) for God, dark clouds can symbolize a group of negative witnesses (Joshua and Caleb with good report versus the other ten spies with a bad report).

Clouds (White)

White clouds symbolize a Holy Spirit filled the atmosphere of victory, glory and the blessings of God. When you see white clouds in a vision or in a dream it speaks of blessings appearing. These blessings can be spiritual blessings like breakthroughs, growth, expansion or promotion. It can also be financial or natural blessings depending on what you prayed for. It also depends on whom you prayed.

These blessings can be applied to a specific person, a church or even a nation. It really depends on who was prayed for or who was on your mind before you received the vision or the dream. White clouds symbolize blessings and victory but can also symbolize an atmosphere of victory.

Coal

Isaiah 6:6

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.

Romans 12:20

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Song of Solomon 8:6

Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Dreaming of coal in a dream speaks of burning fire which speaks of the presence of God, divine purifying or testing, the holiness of God or the judgment of God or even the judgment of people.

In a positive sense, it speaks of people going through fire in order for God to remove impurities in their souls and in their lives. It is therefore not a pleasant process and it includes trials and difficult circumstances in the lives of such people.

In a negative sense, it is about the judgment of God on people who are out of line and hurting the body of Christ. This is all about people not walking in obedience. God is of course very patient and loving and full of grace like only the most wonderful Father can be. He is definitely not standing ready to punish people left right and center. He is actually extremely patient with people.

God usually warns his children for years about a particular sin or acts of disobedience before He actually chastises them. Make no mistake, God does chastise his children and He does it in a lot more severe way than the mainline church is teaching. You really should read my article, “Biggest Shock of Your Life!“, about this matter. I have supported all the statements that I have made in this article with numerous Scriptures and examples in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

In another sense, coal symbolizes the judgment of people on other people. This happens when people commits all sorts of atrocities and crimes for which they are held accountable and for which they are judged and punished.

Cockatrice

Isaiah 59:5

They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.

Isaiah 14:29

Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

Isaiah 11:8

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

A cockatrice is a medieval name of a fabulous serpent supposed to be produced from a cock’s egg. It is something claimed to be like a cross between a “horned viper” snake and a chicken.

Flying dinosaurs (dragons) resembled this mystical creature and it (flying dinosaurs) was indeed soaring the skies of this earth during the period between the creation and Noah’s flood. This creature is supposedly mystical but could just as well have been one of the flying dinosaurs which are now extinct.

According to Scriptures this creature symbolizes the evil hosts of satan. We know spirits are symbolized by birds (See “Birds”) and therefore this viper-like creature speaks of the evil hosts of satan. Dreaming of a creature such as this therefore symbolizes the presence of the evil hosts of satan.

Coffin

A coffin speaks of unfinished financial, spiritual or other matters. It speaks of unresolved issues. When we see a coffin in dreams it means that the relevant issue is not buried yet. It means the issue still exists. This happens a lot when it comes to very old emotional issues where it is not just a matter of overcoming the negative emotions but involves physically rectifying or repairing the outstanding matters. It means paying off old financial debts, honoring contracts or honoring promises. When a coffin is placed into the grave and buried it means that the issue is now resolved.

Very important in this matter is that with this symbol the word “debt” is a keyword. We owe it to God, to other people and to financial institutions to pay our debts, whether it is a financial debt or a spiritual debt, it does not matter. We always have to pay all our debts.

Constipation

Luke 6:27-36

27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

2 Timothy 2:23-26

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

When we dream that we have constipation it means that we, for some reason, cannot relieve ourselves properly. This speaks of a temporary inability to repent and confess sinful inner emotional issues such as bitterness, hate, unforgiveness and despising people in our lives. See “Toilet (Passing solids)”. Constipation is caused by us not being willing to repent or confess inner issues that we are struggling with. We might be eating wrong spiritual food (See “Food”) that might be causing the problem. It might be caused by fear to deal with past issues or it might be because of spiritual hemorrhoids (See “Hemorrhoids”).

Corn

1 Timothy 5:18

For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Isaiah 36:17

Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

Psalm 78:24

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

John 12:24

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Hosea 8:22

For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

Corn, wine, oil, and bread symbolize blessings, harvest and increase. It is all about the provision of God. People often see bread in baskets in dreams and visions. The blessings or provisions of God sustains us physically but also spiritually.

Cornerstone

1 Peter 2:6

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Matthew 21:42

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Ephesians 2:20

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

When we dream of a cornerstone or even just a corner in a room or a building it symbolizes something which is a strong foundation or strong support or an alignment that we use to continue building thoroughly and effectively. This strengthens us being a spiritual house in the kingdom of God.

Led By the Holy Spirit Or Our Dreams?

In a negative sense, some demonic activities in a corner of a house or a building speak of negative and/or evil strongholds which became a platform or a foundation in a person’s life. Many people experience the presence of such evil spirits even inside the bricks or foundations of buildings. It speaks of them hiding and thriving inside the “building blocks” of our spiritual support structures. Experiencing this in dreams and visions speaks of the need to be delivered from such evil spirits. In such cases it indicates that evil spirits have a strong influence on a person, usually pertaining to a specific aspect of such a person’s life. Remember that houses symbolize people and therefore the presence of evil spirits inside a house in dreams and visions speaks of such a person being influenced by an evil spirit. Please take note that this does not mean that such a person is demon possessed. We have many documented “examples” proving that it is not the case.

Courtyard

A courtyard in dreams and visions speaks of a place where people meet. It indicates that people should get together for some spiritual reason.

Cow

Genesis 41:18

And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow…

Hosea 4:16

For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

Hosea 10:11

And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.

Amos 4:1

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

A cow is universally regarded as the provider of nourishment and prosperity. For this reason, it symbolizes financial provision and prosperity. It speaks of the seasonal provision or a system in which we can be provided for.

I once had a dream of a dairy cow facing the left side in the visionary field of my dream and therefore indicating financial provisions not coming in immediately as it was supposed to (See “directions in dreams and visions”). The cow was being milked with an automatic milking system which indicated a good steady financial income. After this dream, I had to wait quite a while before I received quite a substantial amount of finances (donations) from a specific person, every month, for more than two years. This season of abundant income was symbolized by a dairy cow being milked by an automatic milking system. The reason why I did not receive this income earlier was probably due to me and my wife not acting in faith as God intended for us at that stage in our spiritual journey of faith.

In another sense, like a bull, a cow can also symbolize a negative attitude. While a bull is aggressive, a cow’s resistance toward God and anointed people are more passive. This passive resistance can be described as being stiff-necked or having a passive rebellious attitude. It can symbolize a person being unwilling to do what is right or what is expected from him or her. Because of this passive rebellion, people with this attitude are sometimes unwilling in giving just as a cow sometimes “selfishly” withdrawing her milk does.

In another sense, a cow can also symbolize a person who regards other things more important than God. Such people are often very ignorant of Biblical truths and the ways of God. They just do not have a sense of urgency or responsibility when it comes to spiritual matters.

Creatures (Of the sea)

Symbols in this category speak of man’s spirit, which is hidden from other people. Just like creatures of the sea are hidden under the surface of the water, so man hides his true nature from other people. When you dream of a creature of the sea the spirit of a person is revealed to you. When you dream that a creature of the sea comes up out of the water it means that the spirit of a certain person will be self-exposed. Such a person will probably act in such a way that he exposes himself.

Crocodile

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Matthew 10:28

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

A crocodile symbolizes a dangerously sly or divisive or shrewd person. These people are evil forces or evil powers and there are a lot of demonic activities at work in their lives. They are really powerful spiritual predators and should be considered dangerous.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Crooked

Philippians 2:15

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

Luke 3:5

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth.

Psalm 125:5

As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Crooked objects (like paths, rods, swords, etc.) in dreams and visions symbolizes faulty, defective, flawed, unsound, distorted, inaccurate, incorrect, erroneous, imprecise, fallacious and wrong spiritual situations in the lives of people. It speaks of twisted, perverted, warped, deviant, depraved, corrupt, abnormal, unhealthy, aberrant, distorted, corrupted, debauched, debased, degenerated, sadistic and even evil conditions or situations in the lives of people. It reveals sub-standard or wrong situations and conditions. The other symbols of such a dream or a vision will reveal more information in terms of the meaning or reason of a specific crooked object.

Crown

Revelation 3:11

Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

A crown symbolizes authority or victory or honor.

Cumin

Isaiah 28:25-27

25 When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?

26 For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.

27 For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.

Cymbal

Ezra 3:10

And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.

Nehemiah 12:27

And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.

Cymbals in dreams and visions symbolize joy, praise, and worship. See “Music” and the meanings of other musical instruments in this dictionary for a better understanding of this symbol.
