How should I use the free online dreams and visions symbols dictionary?

Read through the explanation of the meanings(s) of the particular symbol. Make sure you take note of deviations and exceptions regarding the different meanings. Record the meanings. Identify the incident that triggered the dream or the vision. This is the basis or the foundation from where you start or build your interpretation process. Before you start, you need to understand what triggered the dream or the vision. Read about this principle at this link: The Golden Key

D – Symbols (The meanings or the interpretation of most symbols in this dictionary are derived from the Bible)

Dagger

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God…

Revelation 2:15-16

So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Similar to a sword or a knife, a dagger speaks of the “sword of the Spirit” (the Word of God). The color of the dagger will reveal relevant information concerning the meaning of the dream. When we speak or declare the word of God in faith the “Rhema” word of God goes into action. This means us using the “Rhema” word of God we change negative circumstances in our lives. “Rhema” word has power. When people use it in faith it changes things. It brings things into existence.

See “Sword” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dam

Jeremiah 38:22

And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.

A dam speaks of vast amounts of financial resources or spiritual resources kept in reserve for either an individual, a group of people like a town or city or any other community or group of people or for people living in a specific area. These resources are available when needed. The color of the water and the condition of the water will provide additional information and detail regarding these resources.

Danger

Danger in a dream speaks of a spiritual attack on a person. The danger lies in the fact that evil spirits can cause a person to lose his or her salvation, the person dying without being saved at all or the person losing spiritual or financial blessings. This speaks of the person losing spiritual ground, experiencing spiritual deterioration or the person backsliding.

See this interesting example of a dream about a dangerous situation in that person’s life: A lady who was trapped in bad and evil activities once had a dream of a very ugly and devilish monster lurking and hiding in the dark in her garden. In the dream, she was terrified. She knew she was at risk. At one stage, she was peeping through her bedroom window when she saw this evil creature chewing a screaming woman in its huge mouth. She could hear the woman’s bones crack while being chewed to death. She heard the last faint little scream from this woman before this creature finally swallowed her. At exactly this point, she knew that she was that woman. She was terrified during and after the dream.

Now many people would say that this dream came from satan. It turned out that this dream was from God. It was his final warning to this woman that if she did not repent immediately from the evil and devilish activities she was involved in, the demon in the dream, was going to cause her to be lost and condemned forever. It was the last warning and fortunately, this woman did repent soon after this dream.

See “Snake” for a better understanding of the way that evil spirits attack us and how we should resist them effectively.

Daughter

Matthew 25:1

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

A daughter in dreams and visions speaks of spiritual growth or expansion and spiritual fruitfulness. This means that more aspects of ministries are added to the existing ministry. It also speaks of growth in terms of spiritual maturity.

If you pray for a couple or a woman to conceive, a baby girl could mean that the woman will literally bring a little girl into this world.

David

Mathew 2:4-5

4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet.

1 Samuel 16:1,17

1 And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

King David in dreams and visions symbolizes Christ Jesus, the anointed and beloved Son of God.

Day

Psalm 90:4

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

2 Peter 3:8

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

John 9:4

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

A day in dreams and visions symbolizes a specific period of time. Either a thousand years but it can also symbolize a specific time period for a specific task or a specific purpose. It is a symbol for a specific space of time.

Deaf

Isaiah 29:18

And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

Psalm 58:4

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear.

Isaiah 35:5

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

In dreams and visions, deaf symbolizes spiritual inattentiveness and “distractedness”. Such people just pay no heed to the gospel of Christ and the word of God.

Death (Self)

When we see ourselves dead or dying in a dream or vision, it speaks of ourselves dying in a spiritual sense. It is a spiritual aspect in the lives of Christians and it happens or is achieved by us crucifying the desires and the works of the flesh or the soul. It brings changes in our lives. It speaks of us dying so that Christ can live in and through us. We become less so that He can become more.

See “Death”

Deer

Psalm 42:1

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Proverbs 5:19

Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

Song of Solomon 2:9,17

9 My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

A deer (hart, roe) speaks of a person who longs for the revelation of God. It also speaks about the loving nature of the deer. David speaks of God making his feet like the feet of a deer which speaks of a person walking steadfastly where he is supposed to walk. In Song of Solomon, we read about the woman advising her beloved to flee from sexual immorality like the deer. In this sense, it speaks of sexual morality.

A deer, in another sense, symbolizes a person who is gentle, sensitive and timid.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Desert

Jeremiah 17:6

For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

Isaiah 33:9

The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.

Isaiah 40:3

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

A desert describes a climate in which it hardly rains. Most are hot, dry, and have lots of sand and very few plants.

A desert in dreams and visions speaks of desolation, solitude and/or temptation. It speaks of the absence of Godliness or real spiritual substance, completeness, and blessings. It speaks of the absence of relationship and because of the absence of both these aspects, it speaks vulnerability to temptation.

See “Wilderness” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Diamond

Jeremiah 17:1

The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars.

Zechariah 7:12

Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts.

Ezekiel 28:13

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

Diamonds in dreams symbolizes spiritual wisdom but also hardness and spiritual riches and brilliance. Wisdom speaks of the wisdom of God and his word and hardness speak of a person being spiritually strong which is also symbolized by a hard forehead.

See “Forehead”

Diamond (Cut)

A cut diamond symbolizes a person with matured wisdom. This wisdom only comes through divine revelations. Such a person knows the will of God as well as his ways and his kingdom principles.

See “Diamond (Uncut)”

Dinghy

See “Boat (Dinghy)”

Dining room

A kitchen in dreams and visions is the place where spiritual food is prepared. See “Kitchen” and see “Food”. A dining room is a place where teachings are conducted. It is therefore, a place where people are being fed with spiritual food. The dining room represents a “place” or a “method” or a “structure”. A kitchen represents a “study room”, or a “workshop” or a “study group” or a person who is gathering information, writing study material or preparing a teaching or something similar.

Dinosaur

Isaiah 27:1

In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Psalm 24:8

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Collations 2:15

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

A dinosaur, monster or dragon in a dream or a vision symbolizes a person who thinks that the devil is still powerful. Like the dinosaurs, who used to be very powerful animals but now extinct, so is satan and other evil spirits who used to be powerful before the crucifixion of Christ. Satan obtained his power through sin (of man) but he lost it after sin and the penalty of sin was taken away by the blood of Christ. After Jesus Christ conquered him on the cross, he was stripped of all power. Some people are however still under the impression that satan is powerful and that he and his demons can cause them all sorts of harm. People who believe this lie are usually involved in a type of “spiritual warfare”, which is not Biblical, against evil, not knowing that Christ Jesus already triumphed over all evil powers. This kind of “spiritual warfare” is actually dangerous and it gives evil powers a foothold in people’s lives. See “Snake” for a better understanding of the way evil spirits attack us and the right way that we should resist them.

Ephesians 4:27

Neither give place to the devil.

A dinosaur or a dinosaur head (intellectual reasoning) in the top left area of the visionary field (See “Positions in dreams and visions”) also speaks of analytical and intellectual reasoning making too much of the problems and challenges in a specific situation. This indicates that the situation is really not that bad or that serious.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Diseases

Psalm 103:3

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.

Exodus 15:26

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

Deuteronomy 7:12-15

12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

15 And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Sicknesses and diseases and calamities in dreams and visions symbolize substandard spiritual conditions in the lives of people. It speaks of them being spiritually sick and not living according to the will of God. It speaks of them being sinful and because of that paying the price for their sins.

See “Calamities”

Dog

Proverbs 26:11

As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

2 Peter 2:22

But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

A dog, like a pig, symbolizes uncleanness or sexual sins or a backsliding spirit (returns to sin like a dog to its own vomit) after it has been delivered. Take note that a domestic dog, like a domestic pig, symbolizes a Christian that is backsliding. It does not speak of an unsaved person. Symbolically people who are symbolized by dogs return to things that they did before they were saved. These things usually fall in one of the following categories: Self-righteousness, immorality, laziness, blasphemous, violent aggressiveness, sins, etc.

Isaiah 56:10

His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

Mathew 7:6

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

In another sense, dogs also symbolize unbelievers, yelpers and religious hypocrites.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dog (Black)

Psalm 22:16

For dogs have surrounded Me

Psalm 22:20

Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog.

A black dog symbolizes a person who is unappreciative and blasphemous. Just like dogs, these people rip valuable things to pieces as if it has no value. Many people dream about a black dog in a swimming pool which symbolizes a person’s negative attitude toward the gifts of the Holy Spirit. People like these are very similar to the Pharisees who did not recognize Jesus Christ as the Son of God. To them, He was just a man and they did to him what dogs do to valuable precious objects.

Matthew 26:68

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

Psalm 22:16

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

Dog (Brown)

Deuteronomy 23:18

Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

A brown dog symbolizes a person returning to uncleanness and/or sexual sin. It also symbolizes immorality and laziness.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

See “Dog (Red)” and “Dog (Wild or Savage)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dog (White)

Philippians 3:2-3

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

A white dog symbolizes a person who trusts in his own ability and own good works. They return to own works and are usually self-righteous. Remember that dogs symbolize Christians that are backsliding (dogs are domestic animals). It does not speak of unsaved people (wild dogs).

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dolphin

A dolphin speaks of a person who is helpful and supportive. Dolphins also speak of people that are in unity.

Door

Revelation 3:8

I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Colossians 4:3

Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds.

A door symbolizes a new opportunity to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ or to minister the word of God.

In a natural sense, it speaks of a new business opportunity or a new way to operate or a new way to function.

See “Door (Screen-door)”

Door (White and opening)

A white door opening speaks of victory and righteousness about to materialize. God is providing an open door.

See “Door”

Doors (Engraved flowers in temple doors)

Through prayer and worship, we enter into the deep Holy presence, ways, and things of God.

Dove

Matthew 3:16

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him…

1 Corinthians 2:16

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

Doves have a “built-in” navigation system. They instinctively know where home is because they do not lose direction. Similarly, a dove in a dream or visions symbolizes the leading and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A dove speaks of a person who has the mind of Christ. Such a person’s thoughts and mind are being guided by the Spirit of God.

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the air)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

See “Dove (Dark)” and “Dove (Dark-barrier)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dove (Green)

A green dove symbolizes a person who allows his intellectual way of life to overpower the leading of the Holy Spirit. Such a person is actually led by his own thoughts and own insight.

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the air)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dove (Pale)

A pale dove symbolizes a person who believes that the Holy Spirit does not lead him anymore. They usually feel that the Holy Spirit has abandoned them for some reason.

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the air)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dragon

Dreams

Amos 3:7

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Numbers 12:6

And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

Dreaming of a dream or dreaming one is dreaming is very powerful. It is like a double confirmation of the message or the symbol revealed in the dream. It is God emphasizing something important.

Driveway

A driveway symbolizes a very short journey. Sometimes an accident occurs at the end of the driveway before leaving the premises. This speaks of a spiritual journey or outreach that did not really materialize ending in conflict and damage (spiritual damage to a ministry).

Driving recklessly

See “Vehicles (Reckless driving)”

Dross

Ezekiel 22:18-19

18 Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

Psalm 119:119

Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.

Psalm 75:8

For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

Isaiah 51:17

17 Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

Drinking dross (wine) or dreaming of the dross of silver in a melting pot or melting oven symbolizes nakedness and sins in the lives of people. It speaks of the impurities and dregs or refuses in their lives. It also speaks of the judgment of God.

Drunk

Revelation 17:2

With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

Ezekiel 23:33

Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

Isaiah 63:6

And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

Jeremiah 51:7

Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord‘s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

The church has often been idolatrous through the years. People have been influenced by the Roman Catholic Church and that trend continued through the years and it even spilled over to other denominations. It is still continuing today. False teachings and horrible things were and still are allowed in the church.

When we dream we sleep (in a bed) and drink alcohol in front of the pew (the area between chairs and pulpit) it speaks of us being drunk and ignorant or spiritually inactive because of the influence of the church (ministers and leaders).

Being drunk speaks of people being under the influence or being overcome by the influences of other people and the consequences of such influences. We are supposed to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit and if we are we will benefit by experiencing wonderful and good things in our lives.

Bad influences always result in bad consequences. The result is people suffering delusions, sorrow and affliction which are all part of the experience.

See “Drunkard”

Duck

Ducks symbolize people who are discontent, displeased or ungrateful. Such a person (symbolized by a duck) cannot be satisfied. Just as a duck, who loves water and who continuously remains in water never gets wet even when it is totally immersed in water, so these people are never able to receive spiritual blessings (See “Water”).

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the land)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Dust

Isaiah 47:1

Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

1 Samuel 2:8

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he hath set the world upon them.

Nahum 3:18

Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

Dreaming of dust symbolizes humiliation, man’s frailty, and contempt. We plan and we are arrogant and we are overconfident. We sometimes pretend to be more than we should. At the end of the day, we all come back to earth and dreaming about dust might just mean that (being humiliated). Without God, in us, we are just flesh and dust. We can never be too sure of ourselves because we as human beings actually do not control much in our lives if we do not have the Spirit of God in us.

    • Hi there,
Dreaming of yourself dying means you are or you need to die in yourself. It is a spiritual aspect in the lives of Christians by crucifying the desires and the works of the flesh or the soul. It brings changes in a person’s life. It speaks of us dying so that Christ can live in and through us. We become less so that He can become more.

  1. Hi
When one dream of her dead
father telling her that someone did something to him so that people may think that he is dead whereas he is not dead.

    Reply
    • Hi there,

If your father was still alive this is what it would have meant:

Somebody probably spread fake news about him so that people could stop their relationships with him. A person probably wants people to stop their relationship with your father.

      Death

Death speaks of the end of a season or relationship or a ministry or a business venture. When you dream someone dies you need to check what that person represents. It can represent another person or the person you saw in your dreams or even a specific thing like a ministry. If it is your previous pastor or a pastor from another era in your spiritual journey it means you are to break ties with your old pastor completely. If it is a man or a woman you know it could be that you are involved in a wrong relationship and God wants you to break all ties with the specific person.

However, seeing that your father is dead this is an explanation of what happened when he was still alive (People did what I explained to him above).

But, there is a possibility that this is not about your Father God and not about your real father, which means that people gave you false information about our heavenly Father that caused them, and probably you, not to have a relationship with Him.

However, it is important that you read this information (The Golden Key) to really understand this dream.

      Blessings

      Basie Martins
