Biggest Shock of Your Life!

I am going to be a bit naughty today! First I am going to scare you a bit! Then I am going to make you shiver and tremble a bit! Then I am going to give you the shock of your life!

Are you ready?

Some of the emotions that I mentioned above did go through my poor human soul a few times when I pondered on this subject. Just the other day two videos that I watched on YouTube triggered it off again. The first video that I watched was a short 3 minutes recording of a debate between Kent Hovind and Reinhold Schlieter, a professor with a doctorate degree. You can watch it here, its is absolutely worth watching!

This made me think of another video I once watched that had a big impact on me, especially when you watch it on a smartphone. You can watch that video here. This video is also worth watching.

(Please watch both videos before you proceed reading this post)

A few days after watching these videos, I went to pray, something I do every time when I go for a stroll.

It was when I was pondering on these videos that I again stood in awe thinking about this wonderful and “strange force” called “God” out there, whom, in my opinion, we actually know very little about.

When you start asking questions about this awesome force it seems that just a few satisfactory answers can be given. I mean, where did God really come from? How did He come into existence? When did He come into existence? If creation is really just six thousand years old, where was He all the “time” before that, and what was He busy with before He created us?

These questions do have an impact on people like me, that is people who believe in God and who believe that He created the universe six thousand years ago. I mean, people like us really know that such an awesome mystical force really exists. These questions do not really impact unbelievers because they do not believe in such a “mystical force” called “God” or any other force for that matter. Emotionally they do not react to information like the videos that you just watched. True believers often shiver for a second or two when they ponder on these questions. Usually, we are struck in awe when we think of this almighty force out there. Especially those who know what a good God He is but also what a fearsome God He can be.

Is Sicknesses And Diseases From God?

Who and what is this force really? How is it possible that something so awesome has been out there in the “dark”, or was it “light”, or was it “nothing”, without beginning and without end? Always has been and always will be. In fact in this regard the words “always” and “time” do not really exist.

Why did “He” decide only six thousand years ago to create the universe and everything that we see and don’t see? Should we be scared of this force or is He a friendly force like Santa?

Well, this force did make Himself known through Israel, the word of God, the prophets, and through Christ Jesus His Son.

By studying the word of God and by studying what the people that I mentioned have said, I can surely answer some of the easier questions. For instance, “Should we fear this God?” My answer to this question is, “Absolutely! He should be feared and some people should actually be terrified of Him! This friendly force actually did create bad things. The Bible is clear on this. He created hell and He created sickness. This force expects all creatures to worship Him and to be obedient to Him. In a sense, He is a dictator. What I mean by that is that He governs and will govern the Universe forever. He is not going to allow any other creature to take over from Him ever.

Those that are disobedient to Him will be cast into hell where they will burn in hell’s fire forever. Please read my post, “Is Sickness From God?“, if you want to know more about this God that we serve. To some of the mainline evangelical and charismatic churches, the statements in this post may come as a surprise.

Some people do not know God like this. To some people, God is a lot like Santa. Always laughing, always happy, and always blessing His children no matter what they do. To some, He is a tyrant who is always ready to hurt and punish people who are disobedient to Him.

Well, although I said that we actually know little about God, and that is certainly true, through the years I have learned quite a lot about Him. I have learned that He is a bit of both. He loves and He forgives and He is full of grace but He is and always has been ready to punish those who have been disobedient and who oppress people. I have learned that He does not leave sin unpunished. He eventually and ultimately punished His own Son for the sins that we have committed.

Evangelism: An Excellent Adaptation

The Bible says that no sin will be left unpunished. Jesus took all sin upon Him and He was punished by Father God for all those sins. Eventually, everybody that rejects Jesus Christ will be punished in hell for their sins because they rejected the blood of the Lamb of God. Should God be feared? Should people be scared of God? Absolutely? We should not do both though. People should either fear God or be scared of God but people can never be ignorant of God. This mystical force out there is awesome but also fearsome. There is a Scripture that says it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Have you ever heard what SM Lockridge say about Jesus Christ:

“He is the King of all kings, He is the King of righteousness, He is the King of the ages, He is the King of heaven, He is the King of glory, He is the Lord of lords, He is a sovereign King, no means of measure can define His limitless love, He’s enduringly strong, entirely sincere, eternally steadfast, He’s immortally graceful, imperially powerful, impartially merciful, He’s the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world, He’s God’s Son, He’s the sinners Savior, He’s the centerpiece of civilization, He’s unparalleled, He’s unprecedented, He’s the loftiest idea in literature, He’s the highest personality in philosophy, He’s the fundamental doctrine of true theology, He’s the only one qualified to be an all sufficient Savior, He supplies strength to the weak, He’s available for the tempted and the tried, He sympathizes and He saves, He strengthens and He sustains, He guards and He guides, He heals the sick, He cleanses the lepers, He forgives sinners, He discharges debtors, He delivers the captives, He defends the feeble, He blesses the young, He serves the unfortunate, He regards the aged, He rewards the diligent, He beautifies the meek, He’s the key of knowledge, He’s the wellspring of wisdom, He’s the doorway of deliverance, He’s the pathway of peace, He’s the roadway of righteousness, He’s the highway of holiness, He’s the gateway of glory, His life is matchless, His goodness is limitless, His mercy is everlasting, His love never changes, His word is enough, His grace is sufficient, His reign is righteousness, His yoke is easy, His burden is light, He’s indescribable, He’s incomprehensible, He’s invincible, He’s irresistible, You can’t get Him out of your mind, you can’t get Him off your hand, you can’t outlive Him and you can’t live without Him, the Pharisees couldn’t stand Him, but they found out they couldn’t stop Him, Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him, Herod couldn’t kill Him, death couldn’t handle Him and the grave couldn’t hold Him.

I am sure that when you watched the videos above you really felt that this God who created everything is something absolutely awesome. Now I am going to make you tremble a bit:

A Terrifying Thing

When God introduced Himself to the nation of Israel, He chose to show them the strict and judgmental characteristics or side of Himself. In Exodus 19 and 20 we read that three months after the exodus, Moses introduced the nation of Israel to God for the first time. We see in this Scripture that the nation was very scared of God. He came in a thick and heavy cloud. There were lightning and thunder and the sound of an extremely powerful trumpet was exceedingly loud. They were not allowed to touch the mountain otherwise they would die.  The whole nation was trembling. Then the mountain started to shake as in a strong earthquake. Fire and smoke went down and up from the mountain. The sound of the trumpet became louder and louder and the mountain was shaking tremendously.

Then God, in his own powerful voice started to read the ten commandments. This totally scared the living daylights out of the nation of Israel. They no longer wanted to see Him or talk to Him because they feared for their lives.

God subsequently introduced very strict laws and if it was disobeyed the people who contravened these laws, in some cases had to be killed. Even mothers and fathers who struggled with their stubborn and rebellious children had to take them to the elders so that these children could be stoned to death.

Then we read in Leviticus 9 about the first sin offering, burnt offering, and peace offering that had to be carried out there right in front of the whole nation. They were going to see how Aaron carry out these offerings and they were going to see how God Himself stand there next to the altar and consume the ram (burnt offering) on the altar with fire from his face. This must have been an awesome but scary experience. Just imagine it. The whole nation stood before this altar. Although they could not see Him they knew that God was standing there next to that altar. And then, the next moment fire came from God’s face and it consumed the ram upon the altar right there in front of the eyes of the whole nation. In verse 24 we read that the nation immediately shouted and fell on their faces. This must have been a scary incident. Just imagine the fear and respect for God the nation experienced that day.

Boy, how He did show them the strict and fearsome God that He was in the years to come. Just after this incident that I mentioned above, He consumed the sons of Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu with fire because of their disobedience just as He did with the ram on the altar.

Leviticus 10:1-2

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

God numerously punished the nation as a whole or families or individuals because of disobedience. He created all sorts of diseases and other methods to punish them. He caused the earth to swallow whole families alive with all their belongings and He numerously attacked the camp with fire:

Numbers 11:1-3

And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the Lord, the fire was quenched.

And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.

Just imagine that! Here you are walking in the desert as part of the procession and suddenly your body starts burning and you cannot quench the fire.

The ten spies who were responsible for the bad report were struck dead with a plague before the LORD. Just read what happened to the nation of Israel in Numbers 16. First God caused the earth to swallow a lot of people (So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me.  But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also), then He consumed the 250 people who made incense with fire (And there came out a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense), then the next day God killed more than 40 000 people with a plaque (But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord. And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun. And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah. And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed).

Through the years in the desert, God literally killed thousands and thousands of Israelites!

If God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, surely the New Testament will reveal this side of God as well. Absolutely! We will see that not only God the Father but that even Jesus Christ is still like this God of the Old Testament.

“How can this be?”, you may ask. Surely the New Testament God is a God of love and grace! Surely this God does not punish people! The Bible says in James 1:17 that Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of course, He is a God of grace! All the good things in life come from him. Does this mean that He does not punish or chastise people? No, believe me, He does. No matter what you do, God just loves you with every fiber of his being. He is “madly” in love with you! Nobody loves you more than God, including yourself. Read Wayne Jacobsen’s book, “He Loves Me”, which can be downloaded for free on the “Resources” page. When you have read this book you will know just how much God really loves you. However, do not think for one moment that you can take advantage of that.

People just do not want to believe that God causes sicknesses and other calamities. They believe that the devil does these things.

They think that because of this Scripture in the Bible, God does not bring calamities and diseases over or upon people. Well, I am going to show you Scriptures in the New Testament to prove to you that this belief is simply not true. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He brought sicknesses and disease upon people in the Old Testament and He did it in the New Testament. In fact, He still does it today. The Scripture above (James 1:17) speaks of the general goodness of God. It does not refer to His will and actions in terms of punishment and judgment.

Just read the following Scriptures:

Isaiah 45:7

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things

He is also the One who created hell, a very bad place where people and demons will be tortured and tormented. He is also the one who created sickness and diseases as tools to punish people. He did not even spare His own Son. He punished Jesus Christ in our place.

Is All Sin The Same?

Hebrews 12:6

For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth

This is the reason why we see so many Christians suffer. Many of them are poor, sick, and suffer all sorts of hardships. It is not God’s will that Christians should suffer. No, His will for us is to prosper and to really lack nothing. The problem is that when Christians get lost or when they are tempted into committing all sorts of sin, God needs to step in and protect us. He does it by warning us against the danger of our actions. He speaks to us. He urges us not to sin but if we stubbornly ignore His pleas, He will get more serious with us. He will chastise us exactly as He did with the nation of Israel. He will make us poor and He will cause us to get sick if we do not listen to His warnings and His pleas.

An example of this we find in Revelations 2:20-23

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

We read this in the letter that the Lord Jesus Christ wrote to the church of Thiatire. Yes, this letter was addressed to the church by none other than Jesus Christ Himself. In this church (congregation) were children of God who did not stay obedient to His will and His commandments. God gave a woman in this church a chance to repent but she did not. He declared that He will cast her on a sickbed. He promised that He will kill her children. He also threatened that He will cast those people in this church, who were committing adultery with her, into great tribulation if they did not repent. This was Jesus Christ making these threats. His message to the congregation of Thiatire was clear, “repent or face the consequences”. Those consequences were sicknesses, tribulations, and even death. This was the New Testament God showing His character!

This is exactly what God did with Ananias and Sapphira. They were Christians who lied to the Holy Spirit. As a result of that God killed them both. I believe that they were still saved but they had to be punished for what they did. Even today many Christians die because of sicknesses that God put on them as a result of a stubborn refusal to repent. On a sickbed, people have a chance and a choice to repent and to ask God to heal them. He will heal them and they will be restored if they truly repent.

God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We already saw above that the God of the Old Testament did bring sicknesses, diseases, poverty, death, and all sorts of calamities over His own (the children of Israel). We also saw above that the God of the New Testament did exactly the same. We also see it in the letter Paul wrote to the church of Corinth (New Testament Christians).

1 Corinthians 11:30-32

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world

The congregation of Corinth was known to be a lukewarm congregation. These Christians were involved in all sorts of bad habits, sins, and things that really did not fit blood-washed, Spirit-filled children of God. God had to chastise them! The chastisement served to bring them to their senses. Chastisement was orchestrated by God to cause Christians to repent. Many of them became sick and some even died because of this.

This is what Paul meant when he wrote the following:

It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Money! What a Babylonian Confusion!

In this Scripture, Paul states that it is better for the flesh to be destroyed so that the spirit may at least not be condemned but saved. This is exactly why God does cast people on a sickbed as we have seen in Revelations 2 above. In this Scripture, however, the congregation officially, after a meeting, handed a person over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh so that he can repent. If he repents at least his spirit is saved although he suffered in the flesh. According to James 5:14-16, it even goes further, there is also healing available if we repent.

James 5:14-16

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

In the book of Mark we see this same principle (the breaking down or the sacrificing of the flesh in order to save the soul) from another angle:

Mark 9:47

And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire

In a Christian’s life, sickness and calamities always mean one thing: Something is wrong! This is usually a wake-up call! It is red lights flashing! It means to repent! If we do not repent then God has no other choice but to chastise us in order to at least save the soul, although the body may suffer and/or die in the process.

God is really not like Santa! He is not a God with just good gifts! Although He is such a good, loving, and gracious God, although He is full of mercy and grace, although He is slow to anger, although He is quick to forgive, although His mercies are new every morning, God is still just as strict as He was in the Old Testament.  He will still bring evil upon people, even His own. In fact, especially His own.

Now I am going to give you the shock of your life! Do not fear, this is actually a wonderful shock. It is something so amazing that many Christians refuse to believe it!

You as a Spirit-filled person, although you are not God, you definitely are of the same class as God!

Please read the following Scriptures:

John 3:1-13

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

In verses, 1 to 4 Nicodemus asked a lot of questions regarding this new thing called the new birth. He really wanted to understand this concept because it was totally new and unheard of. Never in history was it ever heard of a man born of water and of Spirit. 1 John 3:9 says, “whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God”.

At that time, to be born of God was something totally new. In the Old Testament, people were not born of the Spirit. There is actually a big difference between Old Testament people and those born of God in the New Testament.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away ; behold , all things are become new.

Christians are really new creatures. We are not the same creatures as unrighteous people or as Old Testament people. We are not God but of the same “class” as God. That is why we are called the bride of Christ. Christ is our heavenly Bridegroom.

In Revelations 21:9 one of the seven angels says, “Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife”. Marriage can only take place between two living beings of the same kind. A man cannot get married to a tiger or an elephant. Why? Because they are two different creatures. Christ cannot betroth unrighteous people because they are two different creatures. He can betroth the church because the church is of the same class as God. Do not be confused. We are not God but we are definitely of the same “class” as God. The Bible says that we were made just a little lower than God (Not like “angels” as most Bible translators incorrectly translated this Greek word).

How do Old Testament people and Christians differ? We see this answer in the book of Corinthians:

1 Corinthians 15:44-50

44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

What does this Scripture really say? It says that…

  1. Old Testament people are natural and have a natural body. Those born of God are spiritual and have spiritual bodies.

  2. Old Testament peoples are souls. Those born of God are spirits.

  3. Old Testament people are born of dust. Those born of God are born of water and of the Spirit.

  4. Old Testament people are from earth. Those born of God are from heaven.

  5. Earthly people are like Adam. Those born of God are like the heavenly. They are like Christ.

  6. Old Testament people bear the image of Adam. Those born of God bear the image of Christ.

  7. Earthly people are flesh and blood and can therefore not inherit the kingdom of God. Those born of God are spirits and therefore they are joint-heirs of the kingdom of God with Christ.

  8. Remember these very important truths: The Old Testament people (Israel) were “servants” of God, we are “sons” and “kings” of God. God lived “among” the Israelites or in their “midst”. God lives “in” the church and “in” every believer individually. Israel was the “people” or “nation” of God. The church is the “bride” and the “wife” of God. Although it appears that Israel was also the wife of God, the nation of Israel was only a “type” of the real bride to come which is the church. Why? Because God could not really betroth Israel. A living creature can only betroth another living creature of the same kind. Only those born of God or born of the Spirit of God are the same kind as God. The church or the body of Christ is really a magnificent living creature. As God, there is literally no other creature like the church. It is the only living creature that is one yet consists of many members. It is the only creature where each member thereof has a personal relationship with God and with her Bridegroom, yet this phenomenal creature stands before Him as one person or as one bride. Only the church is the bride of Christ.

The Purpose Of Sicknesses and Diseases

The human race is awesome. We are wonderfully made! This is what the Bible says about us:

Psalm 8:4-6 (Geneva Bible and all other Bibles that were correctly translated)

4. What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5. For thou hast made him a little lower than God, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet

John 10:34

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

Yes, even the angels are lower than us. The Bible calls them “serving or ministering spirits”:

Hebrews 1:14

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

It is very clear that Christians are very different from Old Testament and unsaved people. That is why Nicodemus asked all those questions. He wanted to get clarity about this wonderfully made new species called the sons of God or the children of God.

Right through the Old Testament the Spirit of God could not go into people but just upon them. This was because man was not made or constructed to contain this wonderful being called the Holy Spirit inside of them yet. It was in fact impossible for the Spirit of God to dwell inside man because of this reason. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, he made this wonderful experience possible. That is why He, with His first appearance to His disciples, gave them the privilege to receive and to have the Spirit inside of them.

Now, this post was interesting! Different people experienced different emotions reading it. If you could feel a bit of fear and you shivered and trembled a bit whilst reading this, I think you are OK. If you were in awe of this awesome God I think you are OK. If the fact that you are of the same “class” as God came as a shock to you, let it sink in. It is a wonderful shock after all. If you did not feel any emotion at all you might have to reconsider your belief and your faith in God and His word again. We can never be ignorant of these truths. We can never ignore God. We will have to face the consequences sooner or later and that will be disastrous.

Hebrews 10:31

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

My deepest desire for you today is that your biggest shock is not something altogether different. My desire is that you do not open your eyes to the other side of this life only to discover that Jesus Christ was real after all, because then it will be too late. I would rather bow down before this wonderful and this awesome and fearsome God now while I can do it voluntarily. As a Christian, I would rather be obedient to this wonderful and loving God and His word. My desire is that when I fail I will be quick to repent. Let me be quick to hear his instructions and His warnings.

Psalm 139

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
