This Is Faith In Action!

This message is a personal testimony, but it is relevant for believers no matter who you are or what you do. We all have had challenges in our lives where we asked the question, “God, where are you?” Often this question is followed up with, “Lord I need you, I really need you to show up.” Psalm 27:4 tells us in our time of despair, “Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” David, who wrote many of the Psalms, understood this on a personal level. His writings were often his heart cry and daily faith.

Many years ago, my wife and I were told that it was medically impossible to have children. All of the Doctors we visited told us that we should adopt. They told us to give up. She and I worked in Youth Ministry at the time; I was a Youth Pastor and she a devoted Youth Worker. It was hard for us to embrace what the Doctors were telling us for we worked with kids and often thought of the day when we would become parents. Initially, it seemed like there was no hope. It was at this time we decided to do what we knew best and that is to cry out to the Lord. To ask him to do what the Doctors said was impossible! We decided to get together every morning, hold hands and pray for our three kids we were believing God for by name. We called each name out in prayer every morning, in age order. We asked God by faith to bless us with these children and we had faith that they would come in a certain order. For well over a year, we diligently prayed every morning.

I then decided to take it to the next level in our faith. I went to a store that sold baby furniture and purchased an entire room of furniture for a little boy. We had faith that our firstborn would be a boy. My wife cried almost non-stop when I showed up with the crib, etc., but I told her it was time to put our faith to action. We set the room up, and for another year, we prayed every morning. We waited in the Lord!

One year almost to the date, I came home really late from a Church Board meeting and set up my computer as always. Beside Youth Ministry, I worked for a large Medical Diagnostics company so I had to upload info to the company every evening. On the computer screen-saver a note scrolled past that made me fall to my knees in tears. My wife wrote a note that scrolled from one side of the screen to the other that stated: “Congratulations Honey, in less than 9 months, you are going to be a father!” Saints, today I have an 18-year-old son, a 13-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son. All in the age order we prayed for. To throw a Cherry on top, we also adopted a little girl, who is now 5 years old.

Brothers and Sisters, wait on the Lord and more than anything, believe all things are possible through him. In a day and age where people are challenging our faith more than ever, we need to realize he is still a God of miracles!
