My name is Basie Martins. I trust that you are all well and I want to thank you again for listening to this program. For those of you who do not know, we are currently discussing general topics relevant to the church and all Christians and all people. With this series, we want to determine how God feels about everyday things and everyday events in our lives. We want to familiarize ourselves with the will and the ways of God.

Today, we are discussing a very important topic that is very relevant right now, especially when we see all the challenges that all of us are facing right at this moment. I think many people are struggling to cope with COVID-19 and all the additional challenges caused by it. Many people fear for their lives. We hear of people dying all around us. My heart goes out for the family and friends of elderly people at many old age homes across the world. In many of them, a third and in some cases even half of the residents have died within days of COVID-19 outbreaks inside those care facilities. This pandemic is deadly when it comes to older people or people with certain medical conditions. This is not the only concern.

People are struggling with financial difficulties because of the financial complications of the lock-downs social distancing and isolation. Economical systems all over the world have come to a halt. Millions of people lost their jobs. People are worried and people have a lot of concerns about the future. We are facing challenges that we do not yet know about. We are living in tough times. Not to mention the problems and difficulties and challenges that we have been facing even before COVID-19 struck the world. Those problems did not go away.

My question is, how do people cope with all these challenges? How do they deal with each challenge? I know how I deal with it. I have a living God who does not care what the situation is in the world right now. He cares for me in good times and in bad times. He looks after me during favorable situations or conditions and unfavorable conditions. He does not care if the economic situation is good or bad. With God, nothing is impossible at all times, no matter what situations and what challenges we are facing.

Unsaved people struggle a lot in times like these. I also know that many Christians struggle a lot in time like these. It is not supposed to be that way. Christians should be thriving in all times. Christians should be excited, thrilled, delighted, full of joy, full of hope, full of faith and just in love with life and Christ and God and his word at all times. Christians should have high expectations at all times. We should feel and live carefree at all times and we should be satisfied at all times. How so? Because we know that no matter what we are facing, victory is always guaranteed. We will always overcome any situation. There is nothing that God cannot deal with. There is no problem that He cannot solve for us. No challenge cannot be dealt with successfully. Victory is always guaranteed.

The problem is, Christians do not know this and this is a huge problem. This is a big concern. Just think of the turmoil and fear and uncertainty in the lives of so many Christians. It is a pity. I do not want to discuss the reasons why Christians experience this. I have done so many times in other sessions and tutorials. My aim in this session is to show Christians that what they are experiencing is not normal. It is not supposed to be that way. They do not have to fear or to be concerned about anything in life. Help, restoration, provision or whatever is necessary to deal with any situation is always guaranteed at all times. With this session I want to show people that they can do a whole lot to address any situation that they are facing right now.

How do we do this? Well one thing for sure, is that Christians will have to make an effort to understand the word of God correctly. The promises of God are yes and amen. This means it is guaranteed. To many Christians this means the promises of God are true, but there are gray areas and that different things affect these promises negatively. All sorts of things cause these promises to lose it’s affects or its validity or make theses promises void. That is why Christians do not pursue these promises. They do not act on it or they act on it but make their own plans in case it does not work. They declare these things but they do alternative things to achieve what they believe God for. Now that is not faith. This is not acting in faith and without faith it is impossible to please God. Nobody must think that without faith, he or she will receive anything from God. That will surely not happen as sure as the sun is shining right now somewhere in the world.

When the Bible says that nothing is impossible for God and for those who believe, Christians believe it but they believe that all those things must be according to the will of God. When it does not happen they say that it was not the will of God. The parts in the Bible that say that whatsoever you ask or whatsoever you desire or whatever you ask God, means that it must be according to the will of God, which is different for different people and not now but later or as soon as some condition is met or whenever God feels like it or when the time is right or whatever people feel why they did not receive what they desired.

When the Bible says that they can speak to a mountain or a tree or whatever the problem is in their lives, it will happen if they believe in their heart that whatever they say to those things will happen. Well, Christians believe that nobody has the faith to do so and that it is impossible to have that sort of faith. They feel that it is something of the past or that God meant it in a spiritual sense and not literally.

Just have a fresh look at the following Scriptures:

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

John 8:36

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Jeremiah 1:12

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

Romans 8:31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

John 15:7

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

2 Corinthians 1:20

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

John 14:13-14

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Matthew 21:21-22

Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

James 5:15

Philippians 4:13

Mark 11:23-24

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Matthew 6:25-33

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

All these Scriptures are the promises of God which is yes and amen and guaranteed at all times and there are only two things that is required to receive all these things. Faith and serving God faithfully. Nothing else is required.

There are no shortcuts or exceptions. If people want to face this world and all its challenges successfully, they will have to decide to serve God and they will have to study the word of God and believe it. We have to believe to receive. If we doubt we will not receive. The Bible is clear on that. People will always look for excuses that allegedly cause them not to receive what they believe. The reality is that those excuses are never true or valid. Nothing can prevent us from receiving what we believe. If we do not receive it means only one of two things or both. We do not have faith or we do not really serve God in truth and in spirit.

Do not look for reasons or excuses. There are none. You do not receive what you believe because you do not really have the necessary faith in your heart and/or you you not really serve God in spirit and in truth. Period. I do not care what you believe or what you want to say regarding this, it will be mere excuses or you have been misinformed. You have been taught a gospel which is not true. You believe false doctrines. Because you not have the necessary faith in your heart, or because you do not really serve God in spirit and in truth, you just cannot live successfully. The lack of faith and not serving God in spirit and in truth have devastating consequences.

This is why people make their own plans. This is why people rely on their job and the medical profession. This is why people live just like unsaved people in this regard. This is why people go to doctors and hospitals and banks and other people for help. People cannot really rely on God because they do not have the faith to do so.

I know these are harsh words but it is the truth for all people. We all slipped up in this area. We have all failed in this area. We have failed to build up our most holy faith and we have failed to serve God like we should. I know many people want to hear words of exhortation in times like this. People want to hear that there is hope and a way out and restoration and provision and healing. Yes, of course all these things are there and available to all of us but, only those who serve God in spirit and in truth and who have the necessary faith are able to receive these things. If you do not serve God in truth and in spirit and if you do not have the necessary faith, I am afraid, you won’t receive these things. The promises of God will not be reality I your life.

You will have to rely on people and the government and your job and your medical insurance and so on. It will certainly help you through some tough times but it will fail you sooner or later. I hope you realize this. It will fail you in the end.

The wonderful thing is, we can all change this in our lives. We can all serve God in spirit and in truth and we can all build up the necessary faith in our hearts. We can do it. It just take a decision. Whenever we decide to do this and we stay committed to do this, it results in us serving God like we should and it results in us having the necessary faith in our hearts to receive all the promises of God.

You can listen to Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer as long as you want. You can be exhorted by any preacher or the most successful television preacher seven days a week and it will not bring the results that you need. It will certainly make you feel better and you will certainly have a lot of hope in your heart but, I can assure you, it will not change a thing except making you feel better. Hope is not faith and faith cannot be stirred up in your heart by a preacher.

There is nothing wrong with their preaching. People need to be exhorted but preaching alone cannot produce the type of faith in your heart that you need. It certainly produces hope but that is not enough. It is like people who is instantly at peace when they listen or sing the song that says that, because He lives, they can face tomorrow. The song is true but unless you have faith and unless you serve God in spirit and in truth, this song will only bring false peace, just as Joel Osteen when he preaches to people.

Faith comes only by doing one thing, and I am going to discuss this thing later in this session. And even if you do have faith, if you do not serve God in spirit and in truth, that faith won’t work. This is what the word of God says in this regard:

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1 John 3:22

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

As you can see, these Scriptures are all about faith and obedience. If you do have faith you will please God and if you live a holy obedient life in his presence you can ask him whatsoever you want to and it will be for you as you asked. The problem is that people do not have faith and they are not obedient to God and his word. This is why they experience all sorts of problems in their lives and why they cannot get delivered.

If just one of these conditions is not met you will probably not be able to face the challenges in this world like you should. In such a case, you will have to rely on the support systems of this world, if you are OK with living as unsaved people live. But, just as unsaved people you will live according to and subject to the principles and the rules of the worldly support systems.

There are a lot of negative consequences in this regard. Allow me to mention just one of those consequences: The support systems of the world are not guaranteed and the world admits and acknowledges this fact. It will fail you. It will work for you a few times but it will eventually fail you. When it fails you it will cost you your life. Or it will result in major financial losses. It will cause turmoil and disastrous circumstances or incidents somewhere in the future.

This causes many Christians to die before their time or to live under undesired circumstances. Many Christians are poor because of this. Many are sick and many suffer a lot because of this. All this, just because they have never decided to do two very important things: To serve God in spirit and in truth or to live like God wants them to live and to build up faith in their hearts.

We just cannot rely on the supports systems of the world. We need to build up our most holy faith and we need to live obedient lives before our God. This solves all our problems. This is it. This is all you need to do. If you do this, you can and will ask God whatever you want and you will receive it. This is the truth. I have seen this many times in my life. It always works. There is no exceptions. I have seen it personally. I can confirm that the promises of God are always yes and amen. It is always guaranteed. It became a reality in my life and it always does for everyone.

This is what you need to do if you want to face the COVID-19 virus successfully. This is what you need to do if you want to receive your healing. This is what you need to do if you want to beat that terminal disease. This is what you need to do if you want to change your financial situation and financial circumstances. Nothing else can do the same. Except from this, there is just nothing else that you can do. There is no alternative. This makes you a conqueror. This brings victory. This is why Abram was willing to sacrifice Isaac. This is why Paul was able to shake the snake off his hand that has bitten him and carry on gathering wood for a fire, as if it did not happen. Abram knew that God would have raised Isaac from the dead and Paul knew that the snake’s poison could not hurt him at all.

Now how on earth was this possible? How did it happen that two people could live like this? How is it possible that two people could display the same attitude and the same level of faith? Well, I will tell you why but I want you to know that this is not a rare phenomenon at all. Many people in the Old Testament and the New Testament lived like that. It was not only Abram and Paul. In fact, there are many people today who are still living exactly like that. Let’s read a few Scriptures about people like that:

Why Are Churches Closing?

Hebrew 11

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

As you can see in this Scripture, one thing is for sure and that is that life is all about faith in God and faith in his word. This is it. This is why we live. This is the core reason for life. We live to believe in God and his word. When we believe in God and his word, it changes our lives. This is the foundation. This causes a domino affect in our lives. As soon as we believe in God and his word, we start to do things and we start to say things that are absolute insanity to the natural person, but a wonderful reality in our lives. What we say and what we do sounds and looks like madness to them. Many statements that I have made in this teaching, sound like madness or insanity to even Christians.

1 Corinthians 2:5-14

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Verse 14 says that the things of God are foolishness to the natural man. Unfortunately, many things of God are foolishness to many Christians. Even some of the statements that I made in this teaching are foolishness to Christians. They just cannot comprehend such statements. It is just too much for them to bear. How can these statements be true? they ask.

Paul referred to people like this in Hebrew 5. We read about them in verses 11-14:

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

We also read why this is the case in 1 Corinthians 3:1-2

Can Women Preach and Teach in Church?

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

So Paul had to deal with Christians who struggled to understand or to accept the word of God. At that stage in their lives, they were supposed to be teachers of the word already, but Paul still had to teach them basic stuff. This is still true today. By far, most Christians still need to accept basic stuff. Most of them still do not understand or accepted the basic word of God. It is still foolishness to them.

It is like this because people want it to be like this. The Corinthians were like this because they wanted to live like they wanted to. They wanted to do things that were contrary to the will and word of God. This is why they were kept in bondage and in this poor childish spiritual condition. This is what Paul told them just after he told them that he still gives them milk instead of meat.

1 Corinthians 3:3

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Paul went further. He told them the following in chapter 5:1-2

1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

So this is why the Christians in the city of Corinth could not live successful and victorious lives in Christ. This is why they struggled. They were still struggling to accept the milk let alone the meat. They could not accept the true word of God. It was foolishness unto them. They also did not live like they were supposed to. They were still carnal. They were full of envying, and strife, and divisions. They were still involved in sinful acts like fornication and other sins and they were puffed up and full of pride. These were Christians that were not serious about God and his word. These were Christians that lacked faith and who did not serve God in spirit and in truth.

Why Brokenness Matters to God

There was no way that these Christians could have reaped the benefits that mature Christians did in those times. There is no way that these Christians would have or could have acted like Paul and Abram did. That snake would have killed them all.

They would have dreamed up all sorts of doctrines that would have been a very convenient excuse for them not possessing the faith that they needed to deal with that snake. None of them would have sacrificed their only son knowing that God would have raised him from the dead. These Christians did not possess that kind of faith. They were not at all like the men and women of faith that we read about in Hebrew 11. They were less than mediocre Christians who barely made it to heaven, if they actually did. I thing some did not make it if you ask me. I am referring to paradise which is a specific place in heaven, where all Christians go to when they die.

Most Christians today, are exactly like those Christians that Paul struggled with in the church of Corinth. The Christians of Corinth would have acted just like them when COVID-19 struck the earth a few months ago. There were a lot of calamities and difficult situations back then. They probably all died because of sicknesses and diseases and other calamities, just like many Christians today. I was shocked and amazed when I saw the news about how many Christians and church leaders died already because of COVID-19.

I mentioned before that COVID-19 indeed exposed the lack of faith among Christians. Christians and church leaders live a lot like unsaved people, just as the church of Corinth did. This is why I decided top discuss this topic today. It does not have to be like this. All of us can change this quite easily and quickly.

This is what we need to do: Make the decision right now, to serve God in spirit and in truth. Decide right now to live a holy life before God. Make a commitment to pursue holiness. Ask God to help you to be obedient in all things. If you are serious about this, ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit so that He can help you to pursue holiness. Without the power of the Holy Spirit we struggle to do so.

The next step is to build up the necessary faith in your heart so that you can be like Paul and Abram and all the other men and women of faith of Hebrew 11.

Encouragement To the Called!

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. The word of God is the foundational element or factor that makes everything and anything possible in our lives. The word of God is the doorway to change and the doorway to success and victory. The word of God changes everything.

John 15:7

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Faith and the word of God are linked to each other. One cannot exist without the other. The word of God automatically gives us the ability to believe. This is what I did and it worked:

Step 1 – I decided that I am going to believe the word of God no matter how impossible it seemed and that I am going to act in faith. I cut and pasted all the promises of God from a digital Bible onto a word document and I printed them all. I did change every Scripture by applying it to me personally. I used the words I and me instead of Israel or you and so on. I put them up all over the walls in our house. I was surrounded by the word of God wherever I was in the house.

I started to read them over and over again, one by one continuously daily. I even attempted to learn these Scriptures by heart although I was not very successful with that, but it did engrave them on the tables of my heart. I meditated on these Scriptures every day. I read them over and over again and again, loudly, and I could feel day by day how the Holy Spirit was nailing these Scriptures into my heart or building it into my heart like you build a brick wall. He was engraving the word of God onto the tables of my heart. I repeated every word of every Scripture every day over and over again. Each time I emphasized a different part of each Scripture and I made all those Scriptures part of my being.

I could feel how the word slowly but surely produced faith in my heart. I could feel it gradually build up in my heart. I could eventually identify the exact moment (the date and time) when each Scripture has produced enough faith in my heart for me to start acting on them.

As soon as I realized that I have the faith for a specific thing, I removed the worldly support system for the specific thing. Eventually, I canceled all my insurances, on my vehicles and all my belongings and I started to trust God for everything in my life. Although many things were already canceled because of my bad financial situation at that time, I decided not to renew them when my finances were restored at a later stage.

This produced the necessary faith in my heart and I did experience very similar situations like Abram and Paul did and the faith was there to stand strong, just like they did. This is the grace of God in action. He gives us the faith that we need through his word. I hope that this session motivated you and helped you to make this very important decision, just like Abram and Paul did.

This is all for today. See you next time.
