Read through the explanation of the meanings(s) of the particular symbol. Make sure you take note of deviations and exceptions regarding the different meanings. Record the meanings. Identify the incident that triggered the dream or the vision. This is the basis or the foundation from where you start or build your interpretation process. Before you start, you need to understand what triggered the dream or the vision. Read about this principle at this link: The Golden Key

Remember that an octopus is a creature of the sea and therefore a hidden spiritual attack or attitude.

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the sea)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

See “Animals” and “Creatures (Of the sea)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Office

An office in dreams and visions is a place of administration. It symbolizes the acts and activities of a person or a group of people where the planning and the organizational aspects of spiritual matters take place. It also speaks of the place of Godly authority. This authority is the privilege to work, act and serve in the church. It is not a worldly authority where the leaders have positional authority over people. It is an authority to function and to serve. It is an authority to be the ambassadors of God in the areas of their callings.

Offspring

Matthew 1:1

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Revelation 22:16

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

An offspring in dreams and visions symbolizes fruitfulness, reproduction and the blessings of God in this area or aspect. It speaks of God spiritually “multiplying” or “reproducing” a person. It speaks of God blessing a person with a spiritual and/or a natural offspring.

See Psalm 127 and Psalm 128.

Oil

Luke 4:17-21

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Psalm 23:5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

1 John 2:20,27

20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

1 Samuel 16:13

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

2 Corinthians 1:21

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God.

Oil symbolizes the anointing of the Holy Spirit. All people are anointed. This symbol in dreams and visions is usually confirming the anointing of God in a particular area of ministry. This is also a call for consecration and commitment in the particular person’s life so that the ministry or the anointing can be developed. Because such a person is consecrated and committed to God, he is a useful instrument in God’s hands.

Remember that people are not anointed to be in a position. They are anointed to carry out a specific task or to perform a specific function or ministry in the body of Christ. It is not about positions and offices but about a function.

As I said, in the New Testament (after the crucifixion of Christ), everybody is anointed. We are all called and all anointed. The anointing is not something special for just a few people or just for special people. People have special gifts but that does not mean that just those with special gifts received a special anointing. In fact, all gifts are special and everybody received gifts from God. The church actually made a big mistake by making the anointing something exclusive. It is not. We are all equal in God’s sight and we all are treated the same by God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It is actually we that act differently or respond differently to the calling of God that makes things different. God is not a respecter of persons. He treats us all equally the same.

Oil (Well)

An oil well symbolizes the prophetic utterances of God’s spiritual riches by means of dreams and visions and other prophetic utterances. Just like gold, oil also needs to be refined before it can be used. This is also true when it comes to dreams and visions. The spiritual blessing of dreams and visions are wonderful but if people cannot interpret these dreams and visions and if people do not apply these prophetic utterances in their lives the true value of these spiritual riches is lost.

Ointment

Oil and ointment basically have the same meaning.

See “Oil” and “Olive” and “Tree (Olive)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Old (Man)

An old man in dreams and visions symbolizes spiritual wisdom. It speaks of God’s wisdom. It symbolizes a spiritual mature messenger or ambassador of God.

Old Movie (Like a western)

An old movie speaks about the past. It speaks of the remembrance of what was or what happened in the distant past in people’s lives. Like a photo, it gives a reflection of the true nature of people of the distant past. A newer movie speaks of the true identity and nature of people currently living.

See “Photo album” and “Photo” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Olive

An olive symbolizes the workings and the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the church. The Holy Spirit anoints people to act and to move according to his ways and his will. This indicates that these people are anointed by the Holy Spirit as symbolized by the oil of an olive tree. This speaks of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

It does not speak of the fruit of the spirit which are the emotions and the personality of God and of people. When we dream of all sorts of fruits it speaks of these emotions and personality characteristics of God and people.

The olive and the oil of the olive tree are something different. It is about the acts (gifts and other workings) of the Holy Spirit through ordinary people.

15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear.

Ostriches show no empathy or compassion for its offspring which symbolizes the lack of heart for whatever they do. In this sense, ostriches symbolize people who do not care about what they do or what they possess in a spiritual or in a natural sense.

In another sense, an ostrich symbolizes a person with false pretenses (a deceptive lying spirit). Such a person shows an energetic spirit in their actions but does not really care about what they are doing. Such people usually mislead people about their abilities and motivation. They want to make people believe in them but they do not really have the heart for what they are doing. They show potential but do not really have the ability that they pretend to have, symbolized by an ostrich who has feathers but cannot really fly.

See “Animals” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Oven

Psalm 21:9

Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

Matthew 6:30

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith.

Hosea 7:4-7

4 They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.

5 In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

6 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

7 They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

Malachi 4:1

For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

An oven in a dream speaks of judgment on a nation or a person. Sometimes God needs to judge and punish a person to get him or her back on the right track.

When a person dies without Christ or in some cases at a very old age, the grace of God has run out for the specific person. In such cases the final judgment has arrived for such a person (Isaiah 65:20 – There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed). This is also symbolized by a burning oven in dreams and visions.

God also judges nations who are involved in serious acts of atrocities and unrighteousness. In such cases, these nations are punished when symbolized by an oven.

Overshadow

Matthew 17:5

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Luke 1:35

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Acts 5:15

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

Mark 9:7

And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

When people are overshadowed by God or the Holy Spirit in dreams and visions or when they are enveloped in the shadow of God, it symbolizes God’s presence and power over or in the life of such a person. This “shadow” has nothing to do with darkness but about being protected against the heat of the sun.

Owl

Isaiah 13:21

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

Job 30:29

I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.

Isaiah 34:13

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.

Isaiah 11:2-3

2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears…

An owl symbolizes an evil spirit misguiding people to rely on their own knowledge and understanding. It is, therefore, opposing the Holy Spirit. People like this discern things and situations based on what they observe with their natural senses. It is therefore not true discernment and of limited value.

An owl can see their prey very clearly, even in the dark. A person with this attitude uses their ability to observe and to “see” what people are going through and what they struggle within their lives. Their actions and decisions are, therefore, based on their observations.

Such people hide their personal reasoning, understanding, and knowledge from other people (hidden thoughts). They are usually very secretive in specific situations and other people never really know how they feel about things.

An owl can also symbolize a person who hides and withdraws and who is reluctant to operate or function in the open. They rather function behind the scenes and they keep things to themselves. For them, this is a way to protect themselves.

See “Animals” and “creatures (Of the air)” for a better understanding of this symbol.

Oxen

Amos 6:12

Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock.

Psalm 144:14

That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.

Proverbs 14:4

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

1 Corinthians 9:9

For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen.

Oxen in dreams and visions symbolize labor and servant-hood in the body of Christ or in the natural. In the natural, it speaks of a person or people who labor hard and who have learned to serve others. People such as this are very reliable and can be depended upon in a spiritual sense as well as a natural sense.
